Full Job Description
Overview

Touro University seeks a dynamic, energetic, innovative, organized and collaborative individual to head a large BIOLOGY department servicing multiple Touro undergraduate campuses. The department consists of highly motivated educators and scientists who are constantly striving to prepare students for a changing clinical environment. The successful candidate will be one who has knowledge of the biology curricula, good interpersonal skills and understanding and insight into the needs of students of the greater Jewish and general community. This position works closely with vice presidents, deans, deputy chairs, faculty and staff to promote student success. The candidate will teach a reduced load of courses in the department which is the norm at the university.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for curriculum development and revision
  • Oversee the coordination of personnel, schedules and resources to meet the needs of the undergraduate colleges, and to work collaboratively with the various graduate programs of the University
  • Supervise and evaluate faculty
  • Work with faculty to establish department goals
  • Oversee the assessment of the department's programs
  • Oversee faculty selection
  • Ensure departmental representation at meetings and other events
  • Chair departmental meetings and appoint departmental committees
  • Advise and respond to student appeals and requests
  • Recommend changes to maintain the relevance of the program
  • Present a positive image of the college to the community
  • Advise pre-health students and biology majors


Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • Doctor of Philosophy.
  • Ph.D. or Terminal Degree in biology and /or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in higher education
  • Record of academic research and professional expertise
  • Administrative experience required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Familiarity with Lander Colleges and NYSCAS student body
  • Ability to communicate with administration, faculty and students
  • Excellent teaching skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, & Canvas
