ABOUT THE ROLEAs the
Associate Manager, Packaging Engineer, you will support packaging development across the North America Home Fragrance portfolio. You will have a strong focus on leading and advancing sustainability and regulatory priorities while also supporting growth, innovation, business continuity, and cost-savings initiatives.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership across a variety of packaging formats and technologies. You will play an important role in shaping and advancing the North America Home Fragrance sustainability strategy, partnering cross-functionally to translate evolving sustainability and regulatory requirements into packaging strategies and solutions that support long-term business objectives.
You will apply your packaging engineering expertise to develop and qualify new and revised packaging solutions while exploring and evaluating emerging technologies, materials, and capabilities for future applications. You will partner with key internal and external stakeholders to solve technical challenges, advance project and strategic objectives, and support effective decision-making across the portfolio.
You will also stay current on emerging technologies, industry trends, and evolving requirements to identify opportunities, anticipate future needs, and help advance packaging capabilities across the Home Fragrance portfolio.
This position will report to Nick Salmons, Manager R&D Air CareKEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Lead comprehensive end-to-end packaging development for North America Home Fragrance projects across innovation, growth, business continuity, sustainability, and cost-saving initiatives, covering primary, secondary, and e-commerce packaging.
- Drive packaging sustainability priorities for NACB Home Fragrance and support development and execution of the longer-term sustainability strategy.
- Serve as a key technical partner on packaging sustainability and regulatory topics, assessing implications for the portfolio and guiding teams toward appropriate solutions.
- Explore and assess emerging packaging technologies, materials, and capabilities to identify opportunities that support future innovation, sustainability, and business needs.
- Ensure timely and complete delivery of technical deliverables, proactively identifying and addressing technical risks that could impact project success.
- Develop packaging solutions that meet both internal and external customer needs.
- Coach and mentor other packaging engineers in North America.
- Lead or participate in packaging and process improvement workstreams.
- Collaborate proactively with cross-functional teams to build timelines, achieve key milestones, address technical risks, identify new ways of working, and drive effective project execution.
- Develop and execute test plans, perform lab tests, present data in technical reviews, and document results in technical reports.
- Generate robust specifications for packaging components, finished goods, bills of materials, and pallet factors.
- Provide technical expertise and critical thinking to resolve technical issues and support decision-making in complex situations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING- Bachelor's degree in Packaging or other relevant engineering discipline (e.g., mechanical, materials, etc.) and a minimum of 6 years of product/packaging development experience, or master's degree with at least 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and independently drive complex work.
- Strong technical foundation in packaging development, with experience across a variety of packaging materials, formats, manufacturing processes, or dispensing systems.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage artificial intelligence tools and techniques to analyze data, generate insights, automate tasks, and enhance decision-making while applying sound judgment and ethical considerations.
- Ability to communicate clearly through oral and written presentations, including storytelling and translating technical information for non-technical audiences.
- Ability to learn and develop expertise in new packaging technologies and technical areas as business needs evolve.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate complex technical challenges, proactively identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and recommend solutions.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to effectively navigate complex and/or ambiguous situations.
- Experience with packaging sustainability and/or regulatory requirements, with an understanding of how these considerations influence packaging development and business decisions.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical functions.
- Knowledge of e-commerce packaging design and qualification.
- Knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation regulations related to the transportation of dangerous goods.
- Knowledge of Special Packs and the Warehouse Club Class of Trade.
- Experience with systems and tools such as product lifecycle management (PLM) software, Microsoft Office Suite, and CAPE.
JOB REQUIREMENTS- This position is Monday through Friday and is located at Sam's Campus in Mt. Pleasant.
- Domestic travel of approximately 0-15%.
- Ability to lift 10-40 pounds.
- Remote work is available once a week for eligible employees.
- This role is eligible for domestic relocation.
