Full Job Description
Our Legal team has an exciting opportunity for an adaptable lawyer to join them as Associate Legal Counsel. In this role, you will provide day-to-day legal and regulatory support to multiple commercial property and casualty underwriting business units as well as internal operational areas. You'll play a key role in shaping innovative insurance products, negotiating commercial agreements, and collaborating with internal teams to support business growth.

What you'll be doing

What will your essential responsibilities include?
  • Serve as legal and regulatory counsel to underwriters of US commercial lines business units including provision of creative and timely legal advice and guidance on wide range of insurance/reinsurance and corporate issues as well as guidance on business and contractual matters
  • Draft, review and negotiate large variety of commercial contracts including producer, program administrator, confidentiality, third party administrator, vendor, risk consulting, indemnity, etc.
  • Assist in product development and existing product support, including advising on coverage terms and conditions, providing guidance on product, rate, and form filings, and responding to insurance department objections
  • Parner with Compliance to monitor legal and regulatory developments, assess business impact, and provide actionable guidance to the business; respond to regulatory inquiries and consumer complaints; advise on non-renewal/cancellation requirements
  • Provide cross-functional legal support to other internal operational areas, including Marketing, Communications, Operations, Finance, Claims, and Risk Consulting
  • Research and analyze wide range of insurance and non-insurance legal and compliance issues
  • Retain and manage outside counsel as necessary

You will report to the Head of Legal - US Insurance.

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Qualifications: Law Degree from an accredited law school is required, and you must be a licensed attorney in at least one State.
  • Experience: Some in-house and/or law firm experience in commercial property and casualty insurance
  • Knowledge: Knowledgeable in insurance laws and regulations. Experience working with business clients. Experience with multiple lines of business a plus.
  • Skills: Ability to work without close supervision and solve problems in an efficient manner. Eagerness to learn about new lines of business, products and processes. Ability to prioritize competing tasks under time pressure. Not afraid to ask questions. Willingness to learn and to drive your own professional growth.
  • Strategic Thinking: Proactive problem-solver who is able to facilitate discussions and engage with colleagues at different levels of seniority. Creative, outside-the-box thinker.
  • Communication and Negotiation: Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, negotiation and presentation skills. Build rapport and credibility with business leaders due to your ability to clearly communicate your legal and regulatory guidance grounded in your subject-matter-expertise.


The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 105,300 - 165,800.

Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual's skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues' pay.
