Full Job Description
The Role

Divert is hiring an Associate General Counsel to join the General Counsel as the second member of the legal department. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role. You will work across every area of the business, handling both day-to-day legal operations and complex transformational matters. You will be expected to play a senior strategic role within the company.

Location: Concord, MA (hybrid preferred; open to discussion); occasional travel required

What You'll Do
  • Corporate and transactional matters: Support and, over time, lead work on financings (project finance, corporate finance, and capital raises), M&A and other strategic transactions, working closely with outside counsel and company leadership.
  • Commercial contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer and vendor contracts, technology agreements, and partnership arrangements.
  • Outside counsel management: Direct and manage relationships with outside counsel across practice areas, ensuring efficient use of external legal resources and alignment with business objectives.
  • Regulatory and compliance: Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory matters affecting Divert's operations, including finance, construction, operations, waste, transportation, and energy production regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • General legal support: Serve as a trusted advisor to business teams across the company, providing practical, business-oriented legal guidance on a broad range of issues as they arise.

What We're Looking For
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 5 to 10 years of legal experience, with a strong foundation in corporate, transactional, and commercial work. A mix of law firm and in-house experience is valued.
  • Experience with or meaningful exposure to financing transactions, M&A, or capital markets.
  • Familiarity with the waste, energy, or environmental sectors is strongly preferred. Candidates without direct industry experience should demonstrate a genuine interest in renewable energy or environmental matters.
  • Comfortable operating as a generalist in a lean legal department, with the ability to move quickly between routine tasks and complex, high-stakes projects.
  • Intellectually curious, resourceful, and able to exercise sound judgment independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with business partners at all levels.

What's In It For You

The expected base salary range for this role is $190,000-$230,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Divert also offers equity compensation and a comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
