Full Job Description
The Associate Director of Strategy & Operations plays a critical role in operationalizing the UHG Impact agenda through best-in-class corporate reporting, executive-ready materials, and influence-driven storytelling. This role helps convert broad enterprise ambition into structured, actionable, and measurable outputs by ensuring leaders have the right information, narrative, and supporting materials to make decisions, align priorities, and communicate progress with confidence. The individual serves as a key connective point across strategy, reporting, content, and execution, helping bring greater rigor, clarity, and consistency to how UHG Impact efforts are represented across internal and external forums.

This individual reports to the VP of Strategy & Operations and is responsible for translating enterprise priorities into clear, credible, and decision-ready reporting outputs, ensuring alignment with Executive Council, MBR/QBR, and broader enterprise stakeholders. The role requires solid judgment, synthesis, and executive presence, as this person will routinely shape materials intended for senior leaders and cross-functional partners with diverse priorities and levels of familiarity with the work. Success in this position depends on the ability to distill complex inputs into concise, compelling narratives; anticipate leadership questions; and create materials that not only report performance, but also influence direction, elevate risk or opportunity, and support strategic alignment across the enterprise.

While contributing to broader strategic initiatives, this role is primarily accountable for building and maintaining the reporting engine that underpins UHG Impact's measurement, governance, and influence model, as well as supporting enterprise mechanisms that mobilize UHG capabilities toward community impact. This includes creating the operational discipline, content structure, and cross-functional coordination needed to produce high-quality reporting on a recurring basis; supporting the development of strategic narratives that link progress to enterprise priorities; and helping stand up scalable mechanisms that extend impact beyond financial investment alone. Over time, this role is expected to strengthen the organization's ability to demonstrate value, communicate outcomes, and sustain enterprise engagement in ways that are both analytically credible and strategically influential. The right candidate is highly strategic, financially fluent, AI-forward, deeply resourceful, and relentlessly action-oriented-someone who pushes boundaries, solves around obstacles, and knows how to deliver clarity without overcomplication.

Scope & Impact:

  • Operates as a high-leverage individual contributor / emerging leader supporting enterprise-level reporting, influence materials, and strategic program execution
  • Work directly informs Executive Council decisions, enterprise strategy alignment, and external positioning
  • Plays a key role in enabling enterprise-wide engagement mechanisms (e.g., pro bono) that extend UHG's impact beyond funding into capability deployment
  • Contributes to building a credible, scalable reporting and engagement discipline foundational to UHG Impact's success

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Corporate Reporting & Executive Materials
    • Own development of monthly and quarterly UHG Impact reporting materials, including Executive Council, MBRs, and emerging governance forums
    • Translate complex, cross-functional inputs into clear, cohesive, executive-ready narratives and visuals
    • Ensure reporting reflects enterprise impact performance, investment alignment, and progress against priority domains
    • Maintain consistent reporting structure, templates, and quality standards across deliverables
    • Partner with leadership to anticipate reporting needs and proactively shape content for decision-making
  • Ad Hoc Executive & Influence Materials
    • Develop high-quality executive presentations, briefing materials, and strategic narratives to support senior leadership engagement
    • Produce influence materials that connect UHG Impact progress to:
      • Enterprise strategy
      • Business priorities
      • External positioning and reputation
    • Rapidly synthesize inputs from multiple teams into compelling storylines under tight timelines
  • Strategic & Operational Support
    • Support Strategy & Operations leadership in translating enterprise priorities into actionable plans and materials
    • Contribute to development of strategic plans, operating cadences, and team communications
    • Assist in aligning cross-team efforts to ensure consistent messaging and prioritization across UHG Impact initiatives
  • Enterprise Pro Bono Program Management
    • Support design and ongoing management of an enterprise-wide pro bono program that aligns employee expertise with UHG Impact priority domains
    • Coordinate with business leaders, HR, and community partners to identify, scope, and deploy pro bono opportunities that deliver measurable community value
    • Develop program materials, reporting, and storytelling to track pro bono contributions, outcomes, and alignment to enterprise impact goals
    • Integrate pro bono efforts into broader UHG Impact reporting and value story narrative to showcase employee-driven impact
    • Identify opportunities to align pro bono engagement with strategic initiatives (e.g., Health Hubs, community partners, priority markets)

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
