SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

With a deep commitment to improving public health globally, the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) works toward sustainable and lasting change through targeted policy change campaigns and capacity building in low and middle income countries. GHAI is an initiative of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and draws on lessons from tobacco control and other public health advocacy campaigns in more than 50 countries to drive policy change around the globe to improve health.

The Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships is responsible for building, managing, and expanding relationships that help GHAI's Overdose Prevention Initiative achieve its mission and policy goals. The role plays a key strategic role by maintaining and growing the Initiative's diverse list of coalition partners. The Overdose Prevention Initiative at GHAI advances policies that strengthen addiction treatment systems, eliminate barriers to care and reduce disparities. Through advancing policy change and public awareness, this position helps expand access to affordable, evidence-based addiction treatment and overdose prevention strategies across the country. Our team works closely with state and federal decision makers to help them understand the realities of the overdose crisis and the policies that work.

This position is based in Washington, DC, and reports to the Director of External Affairs, Overdose Prevention.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH:

Partnership Work:

  • Support and expand the Overdose Prevention Initiative's network of over 200 organizations who work on substance use prevention and treatment issues. Develop opportunities for meaningful engagement with external partners across public health and public safety.
  • Oversee work of Strategic Partnerships Associate.
  • Develop presentations, reports and other materials used in outreach, policy, advocacy and accountability efforts with partner groups.
  • Strategize engaging partners in work such as sending letters, attending in-district meetings, authoring Op-Eds, etc.
  • Create, manage and maintain database systems for Strategic Partnerships including listserv lists and support information to partners and coalition members.
  • Support the Overdose Prevention team with ideas, project involvement and coordination.
  • Contribute to monitoring and reporting key metrics for Board and Bloomberg reports.
  • Manage calendar partnership events.


Administrative Program Support:

  • Working with Operations Associate, manage and track partnership agreements, grants, contracts and deliverables. This includes assisting with the calendar/deliverables, creating contracts, coordinating signature process, etc.
  • Schedule partner meetings, track events, and support activities of the AVP of Overdose Prevention and other team members as necessary.
  • Manage process of contract payments to consultants, vendors and/or payees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


SKILLS YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, public policy, communications, international development, or another related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience working on government relations, non-profit advocacy, public health, and/or community organizing initiatives.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and extremely organized.
  • General understanding of the legislative process
  • Experience in conducting basic research on issues including those that may be legislative and regulatory in nature.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while juggling and coordinating multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with general supervision.
  • Prior work in non-profit or non-governmental organizations a plus.
  • High level of experience in creating PowerPoint presentations and presentational materials.
