Overview

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Regional Alumni Engagement, the Associate Director, Regional Alumni Engagement is an integral member of the team responsible for managing the University's regional association efforts which supports approximately 150 alumni volunteer-driven regional clubs/associations across the country and around the world. The Associate Director for Regional Alumni Engagement acts as a liaison to Princeton's regional associations, as well as the regional Alumni Schools Committees, offering tools and training, assisting with strategic planning initiatives, and helping to plan for leadership succession. In addition, this position supports the planning and implementation of University events for alumni held in the U.S. and abroad as well as numerous on-campus University events for alumni.

Responsibilities

Regional Associations:
  • Advise, support, train and steward alumni volunteer leadership in assigned regions, assisting them with planning for association events, communications, programs and activities. Help Princeton clubs/associations recruit new volunteers across regional associations.
  • Assist proactively with the revival or reinvigoration of clubs in designated areas to increase alumni engagement.
  • Work closely with colleagues responsible for Affinity Groups, Graduate Alumni, Alumni Education & Travel, Classes and Reunions to maximize participation in and involvement with regional clubs/associations and events.
  • Work closely with colleagues responsible for alumni academic programming to promote Faculty Speakers Bureau program, and learning opportunities available to alumni.

On-Campus and Regional Event Support:
  • Plan, market and help execute all-alumni University events on campus and in the regions, including program planning, logistics management, budget tracking and volunteer leadership support in collaboration with alumni engagement colleagues and campus partners.
  • Staff and support signature events include University Presidential events, Affinity Group Conferences, Homecoming Tailgate, Reunions, Alumni Day, and Orange & Black Day (on campus and regional programming) among others.
  • Assume responsibility for designated Reunion activities.
  • Staff and support designated Alumni Council Executive Committee standing committees and their related programs, meetings, and events.

Operations and Administrative Duties:
  • Analyze and track alumni engagement metrics to determine trends and areas of opportunity.
  • Manage, track and reconcile program budgets.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong skills in organization, setting goals and priorities, multi-tasking, attention to detail, problem solving, exercising judgment and discretion, project management, strategic planning, motivating others, and both written and oral communication required.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals in a team-oriented environment, with emphasis on consensus-building skills.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with both volunteers and with members of the Alumni Engagement office, across Advancement and other campus colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage volunteer relationships and engage alumni volunteers.
  • Exercise discretion at all times related to keep confidential all data related to Princeton and its alumni.
  • Proficiency in MS Applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, and travel both domestically and abroad.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education, alumni relations and/or volunteer management.
  • Familiarity with Princeton University, its alumni and its tradition.
  • Marketing and events experience.
