Full Job Description
The Associate Director of Development, Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is an advanced fundraising professional with in-depth understanding of the field, who independently performs the full range of responsibilities of a university development officer, analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope, and determines solutions. Using advanced fundraising concepts, plans, organizes, and directs fundraising campaigns which include multiple components. The results of the incumbent's efforts have major impact on overall program goals and assignments and are typically at the "major gifts" level, including building and managing an active portfolio of donors capable of giving $50K or more.

This position plans, schedules, and implements comprehensive fundraising projects and programs for the School of Nursing. This position is metric-driven and expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established through an annual business planning process and aligned with the assigned portfolio. This is a fundraising position focused on building new and fostering existing donor relationships. Guided by a "donor centered" approach, the incumbent will strategically solicit gifts and steward existing ones using various communication methods, including in person, video, texting, phone, social media and virtual visits and will involve travel to secure meetings with donors and prospective donors. This position requires good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, and works independently, collaboratively, and collegially as part of a diverse, matrix organization.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Skilled professional frontline fundraising experience, as demonstrated by 2 or more years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience; or equivalent transferrable professional experience including strategic relationship development and portfolio management; or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Demonstrated success soliciting and securing significant philanthropic gifts. Successful track record developing strategic relationships with donors.
  • Advanced professional knowledge of and experience with development and fundraising techniques, including prospect identification research, evaluation of historic gift data, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship. Experience in major gifts prospect portfolio management as a frontline fundraiser, including knowledge of proven cultivation/solicitation techniques for gifts at all dollar levels with identified success in major gift fundraising.
  • Expert political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies, including donors and volunteers, to develop collaborative working relationships needed to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Related experience conceiving, writing and editing fundraising presentations, case statements, and proposals for support of program priorities. Expert written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strategic relationships with individual donors and prospective donors, foundations, and other philanthropic organizations and researching, building, and managing a portfolio of donors and prospects with a goal of raising philanthropic support.
  • Professional experience in a large academic medical center and/or experience in the field of health sciences and/or higher education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a culture of safety, collaboration, inclusivity, and team building, working cooperatively and collegially with a complex group of department and campus constituencies.
