Full Job Description
Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Engineering, Computing and Construction Management (SECCM), the Associate Dean in SECCM will share responsibility for coordinating budgets, scheduling, managing student enrollment and student issues, and developing and implementing strategy. The Associate Dean will work closely with the Dean in establishing an environment that fosters diversity and is welcoming to all individuals; in handling everyday policies and procedures, as well as special assignments; in representing SECCM on select university committees; and in helping provide both programmatic and academic leadership in SECCM. Based on the interests of the individual and the needs of SECCM, responsibilities will be determined after consultation between the Dean and the Associate Dean.
Policies and Procedures
Collaboratively develop, implement and modify policies and procedures to improve operations, while maintaining consistency and compliance with the strategic short- and long-range priorities of SECCM and the University.
Admissions and Alumni Engagement
Work with the Dean and the Admissions and Advancement offices in the admissions, enrollment management, and recruitment process, including open houses, accepted student days, transfer credit approval, and orientations. Perform similar tasks for Homecoming and other alumni events.
Assessment
Assist the Dean and program coordinators in SECCM-wide and programmatic assessments.
Program Administration
Provide guidance to program coordinators, faculty, and students in the resolution of student concerns and complaints as Chair of the SECCM Academic Standards Committee.
Provide analysis of student academic records in the context of graduation requirements. Oversee resolution of issues related to student registration, advising, and academic management.
Building/Space Allocation Management
Participate in planning committees and meetings related to space utilization, requirements, and changes.
Additional Functions
Perform other duties as requested by the Dean, including those related to budget and fundraising.
Teach one class per semester in discipline.
Requirements:
Ph.D. or terminal degree.
Experienced faculty member with qualifications commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
A record of outstanding teaching and scholarship within a field relevant to SECCM and of service to the University.
An ability to respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, and professional protocols.
An ability to understand and value the differences between faculty and administrative work and to show appropriate respect for each. An ability to recognize the implications of actions throughout the administrative chain and to act accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an administrative position, for example, program coordinator or leadership position within faculty senate.
