Reporting to the Dean, and as part of the ongoing evolution of Sheridan's Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies (FAHCS), the Associate Dean is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the faculty, staff and students in several specified programs and clinics from the School of Applied Health. This includes leading the development, delivery and review of programs and supervision of teaching and learning processes within the School to ensure quality and relevancy of program outcomes. It also includes the planning and administration of resources and the development of industry/community partnerships and initiatives in collaboration with other Schools within FAHCS and Faculties/departments across the College. The Associate Dean plays a key role in attracting and developing talent, creating an engaging work environment and managing performance to ensure faculty commitment to quality teaching, professional development and maintaining currency in their discipline through activities such as applied research. The successful incumbent will contribute to building a strong identity, positive reputation and a clear sense of direction of programs through educational objectives that are current with industry and community needs (including Program Advisory Committees feedback and Applied Research projects), effective, relevant to student needs and consistent with the Faculty and College strategic direction.

What You'll Be Doing

• Providing academic leadership in the visioning, development, delivery, and ongoing review/modification of existing programs and initiatives, to ensure quality and reflection of emerging student needs; economic, technological and industry/community changes; and demographic influences;
• Strategic planning for School and actively participating in the development, implementation and leadership of the Faculty strategic plan as part of the academic planning process of the College;
• Liaising on local, provincial, national and international levels to research and develop appropriate partnerships with the community, governments, educational institutions, business and industry;
• Fostering and encouraging applied research opportunities and collaborating with appropriate personnel in pursuit of these activities;
• Ensuring that the objectives of programs and courses are met through effective supervision of the teaching and learning processes, effective market research and analysis and maintenance of close contacts with business/industry and Program Advisory Committees;
• Ensuring a high level of service to students and faculty; including identification, mediation and resolution of any conflicts involving students, faculty or staff;
• Maintaining a high level of performance through effective recruiting, selecting, developing, motivating, evaluating and training of a faculty and staff team; establishing workload assignments and conducting performance evaluations;
• Managing fiscal and physical resources for programs, including by identifying and pursuing appropriate revenue-generating opportunities and maximizing annual budgets through planning that economizes while ensuring academic integrity;
• Fostering an effective, participatory, and accountable environment for faculty, staff and students in the teaching and learning process and in the academic community;
• Leading and participating on various internal and external committees.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following qualifications:

• Master's degree in a relevant field related to at least one of the programs offered in the current School of Applied Heath (i.e. Diagnostic imaging (X-Ray/CT, MRI, Sonography), Kinesiology & Health Promotion/Human Kinetics, Athletic Therapy, Osteopathy, Massage Therapy, Pre-Health Sciences, Pharmacy Technician, Veterinarian Technician, Animal Care, Clinical Research, Food and Nutrition Service Management
• PhD preferred or equivalencies to be considered
• 7 years of experience working in a post-secondary educational environment with significant management/leadership experience or progressive work experience in education field. (Equivalency to be considered).
• Post-secondary teaching experience and experience in curriculum development and design
• Solid professional/industry connections with an understanding of emerging trends & issues
• Familiarity with educational technology (preferred)
• Sound understanding of challenges, emerging trends and issues in post-secondary education
• Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and student success
• Experience in financial budgeting, management and reporting
• Awareness of Occupational Health and Safety responsibilities (preferred)
