Associate Dean - Engineering and Information Technologies Overview:The Associate Dean is an essential member of the Engineering and Information Technologies (EIT) Division at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. The EIT Division offers a broad range of bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, and certificates designed to prepare students for careers in engineering technology, advanced manufacturing, aviation, information technology, multimedia and design, and related technical fields. The successful candidate will assist the Dean in the planning, coordination, and supervision of the academic affairs, programs, personnel, facilities, laboratories, and operations of the Division. The Associate Dean will work closely with program chairs, faculty, staff, students, and College administrators to support high-quality academic programs, student success, enrollment and completion, workforce alignment, and continuous improvement. The Associate Dean will assist in the selection, supervision, and evaluation of the Division's full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, advisors, coordinators, and contractual and non-contractual personnel and student workers. The Associate Dean serves in the Dean's absence and represents the Division as requested. This on-campus/in-person position requires strong internal relationships, including collaboration with academic deans, directors, administrators, faculty, staff, and students. The position will also work collaboratively with EIT Administration, when applicable, to support employer, community, and educational partnerships, advisory committees, and other external activities that support the goals of the Division.
Essential Duties:Academic
- Manage and coordinate instructional activities across the Division, including on-campus, online, laboratory, extension-site, and off-campus instructional activities as applicable.
- Facilitate a safe, supportive, and effective work and learning environment for faculty, staff, and students, with particular attention to laboratory, shop, and technical learning environments.
- Facilitate curriculum and program development, implementation, review, and continuous improvement in collaboration with program chairs and faculty.
- Manage and coordinate curriculum databases, course documents, program requirements, and other academic records.
- Ensure high-quality and convenient academic advising for students and support the implementation of advising and completion strategies within the Division.
- Assist program chairs and faculty in systematically evaluating academic programs and services using learning assessment, enrollment, retention, persistence, completion, and other appropriate data to develop and implement continuous improvement plans.
- Attend academic program advisory committee meetings and ensure meaningful feedback is solicited, documented, and communicated to appropriate faculty and administrators.
- Support the development and maintenance of strong employer and industry relationships by coordinating with EIT Administration and program chairs as appropriate.
- Manage and coordinate accreditation processes, program reviews, and other external reviews as assigned.
- Facilitate the development and maintenance of articulation and transfer agreements with colleges, universities, secondary schools, and other educational partners.
- Address student concerns regarding academic-related matters.
- Assist the Dean and program chairs with compliance with the requirements and best practices of the Ohio Department of Higher Education, Higher Learning Commission, industry and professional accrediting organizations, licensing bodies, and other applicable regulatory agencies.
- Support the development and implementation of experiential learning, co-op, internship, and employer-connected learning opportunities.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of new academic programs, certificates, credentials, and instructional initiatives.
- Support the effective use, maintenance, and development of instructional laboratories, equipment, technology, and other academic resources.
Personnel
- Support the Division's full-time faculty, advisors, coordinators, and other assigned personnel, and manage adjunct faculty.
- Assist the Dean with personnel matters and employee relations within the Division.
- Assist in the recruitment, selection, and hiring of full-time and adjunct faculty in collaboration with program chairs and the Dean.
- Ensure appropriate orientation, onboarding, and mentoring of new faculty and adjunct instructors.
- Coordinate adjunct faculty assignments, contracts, workload, and related processes.
- Manage payroll, leave requests, attendance, and related personnel processes to ensure appropriate classroom, laboratory, and office coverage.
- Assist with annual performance reviews of faculty and staff in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership and support to program chairs and other divisional leaders in addressing operational and personnel issues.
- Promote a collaborative culture in which faculty and staff are encouraged to continuously learn, improve, and contribute to the success of the Division.
Facilities, Laboratories, and Resources
- Assist the Dean in planning, coordinating, and managing Division facilities, laboratories, shops, classrooms, and technical learning environments.
- Support the effective acquisition, use, maintenance, replacement, and expansion of instructional equipment and technology.
- Work with faculty, program chairs, facilities, information technology, purchasing, and other College departments to address facility and equipment needs.
- Assist in developing short- and long-term resource plans for Division programs and facilities.
- Help identify external funding opportunities, grants, industry contributions, and partnerships that support academic programs and instructional resources.
- Ensure that laboratory and instructional environments support appropriate safety, compliance, and operational standards.
- Assist with major capital projects, renovations, new facilities, and expansion initiatives as directed by the Dean.
Division Operations and Coordination
- Assist the Dean in the day-to-day coordination and operation of the Division.
- Coordinate divisional activities and initiatives across programs to ensure consistency, communication, and alignment with the goals of the Division.
- Work with program chairs and faculty to identify operational needs and bring significant issues to the Dean for resolution.
- Assist in monitoring enrollment, persistence, retention, completion, faculty workload, course offerings, and other divisional performance measures.
- Support program chairs in developing and implementing strategies to improve enrollment, student success, and program outcomes.
- Support the administrative functions of the Division, including coordination of meetings, projects, communications, reports, and other activities necessary for effective divisional operations.
- Assist the Dean in coordinating activities and follow-up associated with external partnerships, advisory committees, grants, special projects, and other initiatives when appropriate.
- Help ensure that information and decisions are communicated effectively among the Dean, program chairs, faculty, staff, and other College departments.
Broad Functions:- Assist the Dean in establishing and implementing divisional goals, priorities, and strategic initiatives.
- Assist the Dean in developing short- and long-term plans for the Division, including enrollment, completion, staffing, facilities, equipment, and academic program development.
- Monitor and communicate progress toward divisional goals using appropriate data and measures.
- Serve as a divisional representative to assigned College-wide committees.
- Assist with budget planning, resource allocation, and monitoring of divisional expenditures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean or Provost.
Minimum Qualifications: - Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years of experience as an instructor, program chair, advisor, or in an equivalent administrative or leadership position in higher education.
- Alignment with the mission and function of a comprehensive community college.
- Experience with program development, curriculum, assessment, and continuous improvement.
- Experience with online learning and technology-enhanced instruction.
- Experience with program accreditation, program review, or other external quality assurance processes.
- Experience in engineering technology, information technology, advanced manufacturing, aviation, or another technical education field.
- Ability to work on campus with variable hours, including evenings and weekends, as work dictates.
Preferred Qualifications: - One year of experience in a leadership role managing faculty and/or staff in an academic setting.
- Experience within a community college or technical college setting.
- Experience working with industry advisory committees and employer partners.
- Experience with grants, workforce development initiatives, or externally funded academic projects.
- Experience managing instructional laboratories, technical equipment, facilities, or capital projects.
- Experience collaborating effectively with bargaining units and supporting constructive labor-management relationships.
