ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Artera is hiring an AssociateAI Builder to build the agentic systems that deliver exceptional patient experiences for our customers - scheduling, referral coordination, medication refills, billing, payment estimation and more.

You'll be a contributing builder inside a customer-facing squad bringing AI-native fluency in delivering end-to-end on your customers' needs - owning initiatives from customer discovery through production operation, onboarding new customers onto what you build, and shipping enhancements that keep pace with the technical possibilities for a named subset of our provider customers. Your creativity should be boundless, your desire to deliver world class solutions unmatched, and your initiative and accountability to those outcomes as a new bar for our customers they themselves aspire to.

At this level, you'll support/own customer outcomes independently with supervision, bringing the curiosity of a product manager, the discipline of a project manager, and the agentic fluency of an engineer to your work. You'll develop real subject-matter expertise and long term relationships with senior healthcare executives, and internally teach and support newer builders and experiment and advocate for novel agentic techniques that make every Artera customer even more successful.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership: Own end-to-end delivery and realized outcomes for named customers. Represent Artera credibly in customer conversations, and raise the bar on the customer solutions the squad ships.
  • Strategy: Identify customer pain and create a roadmap for solving their problems.
  • Program Management: Align stakeholders, connect necessary data pipelines, and manage fast and painless onboarding onto our solutions.
  • Agentic Development: Build novel solutions for named customers; translate their operational reality into technical solutions that you yourself architect and code with our internal agentic systems.
  • Continuous Improvement: Instrument, monitor, and improve the reliability of what you ship; create enhancements based on what production actually tells you; participate in on-call where applicable.
  • AI-native: your work across all dimensions will be inherently reliant on AI-native tools primarily using the CLI; which means you will own a greater breadth and volume of responsibility than a typical technologist.
  • Domain Expertise: Develop and maintain subject-matter expertise in your customer segments (e.g. primary care, community health, orthopedics) and integration surface (e.g., scheduling, referrals, patient messaging, EHR/CCaaS).
  • Mentorship: Mentor and onboard newer builders; review their work with a mindset for raising the bar on agentic techniques and customer orientation.
  • Leadership: Contribute to squad-level prioritization and planning in partnership with the Head of Segment.

Requirements

  • 0 - 2 years of professional software engineering, data science, machine learning, product management, product design, or technical project management experience, or equivalent demonstrated output; open to fresh graduates!
  • AI-native fluency with measurable leverage - ability to produce output on par with multiple traditional engineers using AI-native tools (e.g., Claude Code in the terminal) as the primary working environment; ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Ability to work directly and productively with customers - onboarding them, owning the relationship, and translating customer conversations into technical decisions.
  • Curiosity of a product manager and discipline of a project manager: asks "why" before "how," scopes and sequences work, communicates status, and lands the work.
  • Written and verbal communication sufficient to present complicated concepts to teammates, managers, and customers with the appropriate level of detail.

Bonus

  • Prior experience in healthcare technology, digital health, or patient-facing products.
  • Hands-on experience building production agentic systems, RAG pipelines, or MCP-based tool integrations.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, HITRUST, or FedRAMP compliance considerations in builds.
  • Experience with EHR integrations (Epic, athena, eClinicalWorks, NextGen) or call center / CCaaS integrations.
  • Experience writing evals and quality benchmarks for LLM-driven systems.

$100,000 - $150,000 a year

This is an exempt position that offers cash compensation depending on experience level, equity and benefits.

This role supports a federal-facing product and is considered essential to secure operations. Candidates must meet eligibility for a government background check and comply with organizational security policies and federal data protection standards. The position includes responsibilities related to secure access, incident response, and operational continuity. Ongoing training and adherence to compliance requirements will be required.

OUR APPROACH TO WORK LOCATION

At Artera, we believe the best work happens when people are truly connected. Our AI services model has shown what's possible when small, focused teams move fast together - the speed of collaboration, pace of career growth, and quality of what we build can become stronger when teams share space. As we grow, we want every new teammate to feel part of an in-person community from day one.

That's why we are focusing our U.S. hiring in three cities, where we are investing in offices and building strong local teams:
  • Santa Barbara, CA (Our HQ)
  • Seattle, WA
  • Kansas City, KS/MO

Unless a role's posting states otherwise, new U.S. roles are based in one of these three cities, and candidates should reside in (or be willing to relocate to) one of these areas. Each location follows an in-person schedule that reflects how our local teams work best; we'll walk you through what to expect for your specific role and city during the interview process.

Focusing on offices and hiring in a few locations, rather than spreading thin across many cities, lets us invest deeply in each one so every team has real community, mentorship, and momentum in person.
