Associate Chief Medical Officer, Surgical Services

Southern Colorado | UCHealth

UCHealth is seeking an accomplished physician leader to serve as Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) for Surgical Services in Southern Colorado. This executive physician leadership role partners closely with operational and clinical leaders to advance quality, patient safety, physician engagement, clinical innovation, and strategic growth across surgical service lines.

The ACMO will play a critical role in developing and implementing clinical strategies that support UCHealth's mission of improving lives through learning, healing, and discovery.

Position Summary

The Associate Chief Medical Officer for Surgical Services provides physician leadership and clinical oversight for surgical programs across the Southern Colorado region. Working collaboratively with executive leadership, medical staff, hospital leadership, and service line teams, this physician executive helps define clinical priorities, drive excellence in patient outcomes, and support the organization's strategic objectives.

This role serves as a key liaison among physicians, executive leadership, regulatory agencies, and professional organizations while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with executive leadership to develop and execute clinical and operational strategies for surgical services.
  • Promote high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care across surgical programs.
  • Support the development, implementation, and oversight of clinical standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Lead physician engagement efforts and foster strong collaboration among multidisciplinary teams.
  • Drive performance improvement initiatives related to quality, patient safety, utilization, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and service excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards.
  • Serve as a liaison between physicians, executive leadership, governing bodies, and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor healthcare industry trends and recommend innovative, cost-effective solutions that improve care delivery.


Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) from an accredited medical school.
  • Current and unrestricted physician license (or eligibility for licensure) in the State of Colorado.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of senior medical staff leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading physicians, driving quality initiatives, and influencing organizational strategy.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading surgical service lines within a complex health system or integrated delivery network.
  • Track record of physician engagement, quality improvement, and transformational leadership.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations, regulatory requirements, and value-based care initiatives.

P ay: $346,000 - $519,000 annual base pay. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience
