Assistant Vice President, Mechanical Engineer for our
South Jordan, UT office. This leadership role will support the growth and delivery of mechanical engineering services across a diverse portfolio of building projects, with a strong preference for candidates possessing healthcare project experience.
The successful candidate will serve as both a technical leader and client-facing professional, responsible for project delivery, staff development, business development, and strategic growth initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in expanding WSP's Buildings practice throughout Utah and the Mountain Pacific region.
Your Impact- Lead mechanical engineering design efforts for complex building systems projects from planning and concept development through construction administration.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key clients, architects, contractors, and industry partners.
- Support business development activities, including proposal development, presentations, project interviews, and strategic pursuits.
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, staffing plans, and quality management processes.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to mechanical engineering staff.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams including electrical, plumbing, structural, fire protection, and specialty engineering disciplines.
- Review and approve engineering calculations, designs, specifications, and construction documents.
- Support the delivery of innovative and sustainable building solutions.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Participate in recruiting, staff development, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Remain current with evolving technologies, industry trends, building systems, and applicable codes and standards.
Who You AreRequired Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience within the buildings industry.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary building design projects.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, central utility plants, energy-efficient building systems, and applicable building codes.
- Experience managing client relationships and coordinating project delivery teams.
- Demonstrated success leading projects from design through construction.
- Strong communication, leadership, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and support team development.
- Experience with mechanical engineering design software and BIM platforms, including Revit.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications- Healthcare facility design experience including hospitals, outpatient facilities, medical office buildings, ambulatory care centers, or specialty healthcare environments.
- Experience with FGI Guidelines, ASHRAE healthcare standards, NFPA requirements, and healthcare regulatory compliance.
- LEED AP, WELL AP, or other sustainability accreditation.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Established relationships within the Utah healthcare, commercial, higher education, or civic markets.
- Experience supporting business development and strategic growth initiatives.
- Knowledge of energy modeling, decarbonization strategies, and high-performance building design.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $125,900 - $187,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
