Job Duties

To provide quality educational programs that enable incarcerated adults to become responsible, productive, tax-paying members of their community.

To provide assistance to the Superintendent of the Correctional Education for the Virginia Department of Corrections. Provides leadership in the areas of School operations, program planning, evaluation, and implementation of federal and state requirements; develops agency-wide training initiatives for educational staff. Monitors and evaluates the activities of multiple professional, school administrators.

Minimum Qualifications

Endorsement in one or more areas of education and/or endorsement in educational administration and supervision; experience developing and monitoring department or division-wide budgets, establishing new programs, tracking, and evaluating programs; master's degree in education, and extensive years' experience working as an administrator of correctional education programs. Must be eligible for the endorsement as School Superintendent desirable. In depth knowledge of current trends and practices in correctional education; knowledge of curricular content of a wide variety of educational programs; skill to plan new education programs and assist in projecting their costs; demonstrated ability to define problem and apply problem solving techniques to complex educational issues; ability to manage the completion of projects, set schedules timelines for projects; communicate effectively with all audiences; to effectively present complex information to technical and lay audiences in writing and orally.
