JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Assistant Principal

Qualifications: As defined in State Department of Education Regulations and Standards for Certification.

Supervises: Directly or indirectly personnel and services as assigned by Principal.

Reports to: Building Principal

Primary Function: Under the direction of the Principal, assists in all matters pertaining to the administration of the school.
  1. The assistant principal shall assist the principal in any and all aspects of administration, instructional leadership, and coordination that may be assigned to them.
  2. They will exercise a high degree of initiative and professional, independent judgment in accomplishing the aims of education and carrying out the policies adopted by the Board of Education and the administrative rules and regulations issued by the Superintendent and principal.
  3. In fulfilling their responsibilities, the assistant principal shall exercise both line and staff authority. Line authority shall be applicable when so identified and assigned by the building principal.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Participates in preparing the master schedule.
  2. Prepares individual students' schedules.
  3. Schedules supervisory assignments for teachers.
  4. Manages student information system.
  5. Participates in preparation and supervision of the school budget.
  6. Supervises attendance procedures.
  7. Performs observations, supervisions, and evaluations of all professional staff as designated by the principal.
  8. Performs observations and evaluations of non-instructional staff (nurse, attendance officer, teacher aides, etc.) as designated by the principal.
  9. Administers student discipline including misuse of technology and laptop damage.
  10. Develop and create the Teacher Handbook.
  11. Develop and create the Student Handbook.
  12. Arranges for special programs, e.g., assemblies, awards.
  13. Serves as liaison with the Principal, Parent Faculty Organization, and Faculty Association.
  14. Serves as liaison with the police department and SLEO III program.
  15. Supervises home instruction.
  16. Assumes the duties of the principal in the latter's absence.
  17. Chaperones Junior and Senior Proms in addition to large student activities.
  18. Performs additional or alternative duties, where appropriate, which are within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned, especially relevant to positions other than the classroom teacher.
  19. Performs such other duties as are contained in the job descriptions for classroom teachers except as they may be modified or superseded by any other responsibilities above.
  20. Performs such additional duties as may be established by new regulations issued by the State Board of Education or the Commissioner of Education or those resulting from changes in existing regulation.
  21. Conducts & Coordinates Monthly Security/Fire Drills.
  22. Create & Assign Key ID Cards for Staff.
  23. Standardized State Testing Prep and Proctor Scheduling.
  24. Assign and supervise campus parking to staff and seniors.
  25. Creates class coverage and lunch duty roster.
  26. Chair and Co-Chair the 504 and I&RS committees.
  27. Member of the Policy Committee.
  28. SAFE/SGA Coordinator with School Family Liaison.
  29. Oversee the Teacher of the Year/Educational Professional of the Year/Support Staff Person of the Year Committees.
  30. Interview and supervise potential district substitutes.
