Job Summary

The Assistant Instructor at the College of Nursing assists with the instruction, supervision and evaluation of students in a designated theory, clinical and laboratory area. Teaches students the didactic content and psycho-motor skills essential for the delivery of safe and effective care to patients in accordance with their age and developmental level. Guides students during clinical practice to use the nursing process while adhering to standards established by the State Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Nurses, ANA Standards of Care, and the mission, philosophy, policy and procedures of MVHS, Inc. or other designated facility.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Presents selected content that is grounded in educational theory and evidence-based practice, under the guidance of the Course Coordinator.
  • Promotes the correlation of the biopsychosocial sciences and nursing theory to clinical practice.
  • Utilizes IT to enhance instructional delivery and design, under the guidance of the Course Coordinator.
  • Provides resources to diverse learners that help meet their individual learning needs.
  • Creates opportunities for learners to develop multi-perspectival critical thinking and reasoning skills.
  • Manages responsibilities in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner.
  • Demonstrates respect for the dignity and worth of each learner.
  • Communicates level of progress to each learner through consistent feedback, collaborating in the development of a remediation plan when appropriate.
  • Uses a variety of strategies to evaluate learning in the cognitive, psycho-motor, and affective domains.
  • Maintains the professional practice knowledge base needed to help learners prepare for contemporary nursing practice.
  • Displays enthusiasm for the teaching and learning process and nursing that engages learners.
  • Develops collegial working relationships with students, faculty colleagues, and clinical agency personnel to promote a caring learning environment.
  • Guides the learner in personal and professional development through advisement and role model behaviors.
  • Models professional behaviors for learners, including but not limited to, involvement in professional organizations, engagement in lifelong learning activities, dissemination of information through publications and presentations, and advocacy.
  • Promotes coherence of the curriculum by working collaboratively within the program.
  • Participates in curriculum revision through continual feedback to the Course Coordinator or College administration.
  • Contributes to Strategic Plan initiatives that enhance the College's growth and development.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary efforts to address health care and educational needs locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities that increase one's effectiveness in the role.
  • Exhibits a spirit of inquiry about teaching and learning, student development, evaluation methods, and other aspects of the role.

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:
  • BSN.
  • Actively enrolled in Master's degree in Nursing Education program.
  • 2+ years of clinical nursing education.

PREFERRED:
  • 2+ years in nursing education experience.


Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:
  • Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in NYS.
  • BLS certification.
