DescriptionThe Orthopaedic Surgery Team at UT Medical Center is seeking an experienced perioperative Registered Nurse to serve as Assistant Manager of the Orthopaedic Operating Room. This frontline leadership position supports the daily coordination of six orthopaedic operating rooms, including two orthopaedic trauma rooms, within a 24/7 Level I Trauma Center.The Assistant Manager serves as a visible clinical and managerial resource for the Orthopaedic Surgery program. This role works closely with the Manager of Orthopaedic Services, surgeons, and clinical staff to promote safe patient care, efficient case flow, strong team performance, and operational excellence.Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily operations and case flow across six orthopaedic operating rooms.
- Provide frontline clinical leadership and oversight to perioperative staff.
- Support surgeons and staff throughout intraoperative care.
- Assist with employee scheduling and payroll functions.
- Coordinate new-hire onboarding, orientation, and training.
- Develop, evaluate, and maintain staff competencies.
- Provide departmental education and reinforce clinical best practices.
- Assist with employee coaching and performance evaluations.
- Support the development, implementation, and reinforcement of policies and safe practices.
- Address operational concerns through effective problem-solving and decision-making.
- Assist with patient and family service recovery when needed.
- Participate actively in performance-improvement initiatives and service-line meetings.
- Partner with the Manager of Orthopaedic Services in providing administrative oversight for a 24/7 Level I Trauma Center.
- Provide leadership coverage and operational support as departmental and program needs evolve.
Qualifications- BSN Required.
- Current Tennessee Registered Nurse license required.
- Minimum of two years of perioperative nursing experience required.
- Orthopaedic operating room experience required.
- Acute-care hospital experience strongly preferred.
- Previous leadership experience preferred, such as Charge RN, Educator, Coordinator, or a comparable nursing leadership role.
- Must reside within 30 minutes of UT Medical Center to meet response requirements and reside in the state of Tennessee.
- Must be available for flexible scheduling based on departmental and operational needs.
