Full Job Description
The primary purpose of the Assistant Nurse Manager position is to support daily clinical operations, staff supervision, and the coordination of patient care while delivering efficient and professional customer service.

MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager for Head and Neck. This role supports leadership in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment and plays a key role in staff oversight and quality patient care.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in a supervisory role.

Position Information
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. Hours may require some flexibility depending on business operations.
Location: Onsite, Houston, TX.

In collaboration with center leadership, the Assistant Nurse Manager assists in overseeing human resource activities for all clinical staff, including recruitment, retention, supervision, evaluation, and productivity.

Job-Specific Competencies

Clinical Care
  • Participate in unit-based clinical care activities to support safe, high-quality patient care delivery.

Transformational Leadership and Exemplary Professional Practice
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of unit nursing staffing plans, considering skill mix and patient care requirements.
  • Encourage and support the integration of innovation and research-based findings into daily patient care practices.
  • Actively participate in, assist with, and/or lead performance improvement projects designed to enhance patient outcomes and operational effectiveness.
  • Train, coach, and support nursing staff to ensure optimum patient care and the efficient use of available resources.
  • Assist with nursing staff orientation, training, and professional development initiatives.

Empirical Outcomes and Exemplary Professional Practice
  • Provide support and guidance to nursing staff in problem-solving efforts to meet organizational and unit goals.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve desired patient care, operational, and quality outcomes.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree Nursing or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: Three years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Successful completion of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center New Graduate Nurse Residency Program can be substituted for two of the three required years of clinical nursing experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Upon Hire
  • Required: BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or
  • Required: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
