Full Job Description
Assistant Manager, Underwriting - Remote within Canada

Here's what you will spend your time doing:

Leadership
  • Assisting with developing business plans, budgets, and growth strategies
  • Building, leading and sustaining an engaged, high-performance team to implement the business strategy, through employee development, performance management, coaching, succession planning and team effectiveness to drive accountability and favorable outcomes
  • Training, coaching, and focusing on technical development through consistent constructive feedback and support
  • Leading the implementation of cross-training and process improvements

Business Development
  • Assisting in maintaining strong professional relationships with external insurance market partners and internal Western Network offices
  • Ensuring profitable sales productions, retention, and implementation of new business growth within the organization
  • Maintaining the customer service standards of Personal Lines Underwriting staff

Business Operations
  • Implementation of Underwriting and placement services for new and renewal business at an enterprise level
  • Establishing and implementing underwriting and rating guidelines
  • Collaborating to identify key pricing and coverage trends and providing technical expertise support to develop new wordings, endorsements, coverages and/or products
  • Focusing departmental adherence and compliance to all branch, and company processes
  • Participating in the research and review of industry and product developments to ensure legislative and legal statutes are adhered to
  • Mitigating risk to the Company by supporting the completion of regular risk reviews, assessments and analysis of business/policies
  • Leading, championing, communicating and implementing organizational initiatives, projects, guiding principles, policies and procedures


What we are looking for:
  • Demonstrated experience in underwriting, risk management, or insurance operations
  • General Insurance Level 2 License required (or level 3 depending on province of residence); CAIB/CIP preferred. If you do not have a license, it must be acquired within three months of your start date
  • Supervisory experience leading teams, preferably in insurance
  • Involvement in industry related associations and your community
  • Professional communication etiquette, both written and verbal

  • Hours/Duration: 37.5 hours per week
  • Location: Remote options available across Canada (will be working out of either Mountain time or Pacific time)
