JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT MANAGER, SYS OPS, PST & ENGINEERING

LOCATION: HAMPDEN

REPORTS TO: MANAGER OF SYS OPS, PST & ENGINEERING

POSITION STATUS: EXEMPT, NON-BARGAINING UNIT, FULL TIME

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the general direction of the Manager, System Operations, PST & Engineering, this position will have direct oversight of the Sub Station Engineering group with a focus in the Protection, Control and Communication area, which include duties in transmission and distribution protection analysis, settings, design, specifications, procurement, and commissioning.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversees Engineering design and technical services for the specification, application and analysis of protective relaying, control, and automation systems.
  • Responsible to develop consistent protection philosophy to be employed throughout the business.
  • Ensures direct reports employ the use of relay protection principles and practices for the application of electro-mechanical, solid-state and microprocessor relays.
  • Directs the development of relay setting files using vendor specific software packages for various types of microprocessor-based relays.
  • Direct oversight of compliance with NERC PRC standards.
  • Oversees compilation of electrical system data, statistical reports, and specific data requests, including protection and control testing and commissioning records.
  • Provides direction associated with the work for communication equipment and controls systems including design, commissioning and trouble shooting.
  • Oversees Engineering analysis and application of Distribution short circuit protection.
  • Oversees Engineering analysis and application of Transmission protection and control systems.
  • Ensures direct reports are properly developing of one-lines, three-lines, schematic diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams.
  • Project management responsibilities for individual projects, where applicable, including fiscal control and reporting.
  • Responsible for the department O+M budget.
  • Direct oversight of Sub Station Design Engineers.
  • Direct oversight of the CAD Technicians.
  • Responsible for directing outside Engineering firms is regards to all of our P+C work.
  • Other related duties as may be assigned to the position including System Emergency roles as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent required.
  • Experience with PC based software including excel spreadsheets, AutoCAD, CYME & CAPE preferred.
  • Experience in 15KV through 345KV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
  • Five years of field experience preferred.
  • Five years of Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Position requires identity verification and seven-year criminal background check with update at least every seven years pursuant to NERC standards.
  • Maine driver's license required.

  • Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external parties; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to deal with ambiguity, among multiple projects and competing priorities.

NOTES:
  • Position requires sitting, standing, driving, and walking on uneven terrain.
  • Routine work outside required.
  • Position requires concentration and strong organizational skills
  • Usual work hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Extra hours are required.
  • Other related duties as assigned, including designated duties associated with System Restoration.
