Posting Summary Rutgers University - Newark, an urban public research anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Assistant Manager.
The Assistant Manager position reports directly to the Office of Financial Aid-Director. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) assisting the Director in the overall management of the office, administration of financial aid programs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of program policies that directly relates to financial aid services. An essential function of this job is to supervise a team of Sr. Financial Aid Counselors and Support Staff, and provide training, goal setting, oversight, quality assurance, and strategic planning for the numerous financial aid programs and student population caseload administered by the assigned team. Duties include the hiring, training, development, evaluation, reprimand, rehabilitation and firing processes of the assigned team. Must perform file review, need analysis, constructing financial aid packages and authorize program disbursements for all FSA/institutional programs and is accountable for the fundamental training and coaching as it relates to team members being properly equipped to handle complex problem solving and decision making to ensure optimum customer service outcomes and adherence to compliance procedures. Represent the Office of Financial Aid at recruitment events, external & internal partners, and financial literacy programs. Supports the Rutgers University-Newark strategic plan initiatives of access and affordability.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience - Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of proven performance as a senior administrator in a university setting, preferably within a financial aid office.
Certifications/LicensesRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - The incumbent must possess sophisticated interpersonal skills necessary for frequent interaction with a number of university departments and familiarity with complex organizational behavior and processes in meeting departmental goals.
- Must have the ability to work autonomously and for independent decision making.
- The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations and university guidelines, and the delivery related to same.
- Good written and oral skills are required and familiarity with applicable software programs and operating systems.
- Requires the ability and willingness to work occasional nights and/or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree in a related field and previous supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of Oracle Student Financial Planning (OSFP), Salesforce, COD, FAFSA Partner Portal, NSLDS, NJFAMS (HESAA), and ImageNow.
