Position Title:    Assistant Manager of Nursing
FLSA Status:      Exempt
Department: Nursing

Reports To:        Clinical Nurse Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Manager of Nursing is responsible for  overseeing nursing services and staff during day, evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts, ensuring patient-centered care and operational continuity. They  implement operational changes, staff education,policies, union agreements, and regulatory standards, and ensure alignment with organizational standards, providing direct patient care when needed. They collaborate  with the Director of Nursing and department managers to ensure effective hospital administration during these shifts. Timely communication with Clinical Nurse Managers highlights patient care issues, operational risks and improvement activities. As an Assistant Manager of Nursing, you will help to ensure that our patients and their families receive caring and dedicated service at REHAB. 

Wage Range: $90,626.60 per year to $135,939.91 per year   

The actual wage is dependent on the applicant's relevant experience and qualifications for this position. The wage range for this position may be subject to change in the future depending on a variety of factors such as market conditions, business needs, legal developments, and other appropriate factors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Certification/Licensure:

  • Valid State of Hawaii driver's license

   STANDARD FOR PATIENT CARE POSITIONS: 

  • Current State of Hawaii RN licensure.

  • Current BLS and ACLS certification

  • Completion of competencies and other job-related and REHAB requirements. 

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a combination of education and experience.

Skills/Experience:

  • Two (2) years of acute care medical-surgical and/or acute rehabilitation experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification/Licensure:

  • Rehabilitation Registered Nurse Certification (CRRN)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

Skills/Experience:

  • Two (2) years of Nursing Management Experience


 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Ensures safe, continuous patient care by coordinating staffing, assessing unit needs, and leading staff decision-making. Adjust staffing to meet patient care needs, minimized overtime and communicates scheduling variances to relevant parties. 

  • Conducts rounds regularly to evaluate unit activities and address staffing or operational concerns.Optimizes resources responsibly to ensure operations and staffing runs smoothly.

  • Provides direct patient care, clinical direction, and decisions during emergent situations as necessary. Collaborates with charge nurses on units to manage bed placement, admission, transfers and or patient movement needs. 

  • Monitors and enforces hospital policies, procedures, regulatory standards and compliance with Infection Control and safety standards. Manages service recovery (such as patient complaints).

  • Provides clinical leadership and operational support to nursing staff, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care while adhering to patient safety goals, proper documentation, and effective use of resources.

  • Coordinates equipment needs, resolves deficiencies, and ensures readiness of code carts and other patient care supplies.

  • Collaborates with nurse managers to address any nursing issues, concerns or needs.

  • Fosters open communication with employees and shares information from Leadership meetings. Promotes professionalism, customer service, and a safe working environment while maintaining confidentiality and respective patient rights.

  • Provide clinical support, facilitate communication, managing staffing and patient flow, responding to emergencies and ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. 

  • Participates in continuous improvement projects, audits and educational programs to maintain accreditation preparedness and professional growth. 

  • Serves as in-house administrator after hours, providing leadership, guidance and communication with off- hours departments.

  • Follows and adheres to all  organizational and departmental policies and guidelines, code of conduct, and REHAB employee handbook.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Oversee staffing efficiency, managing labor resources, monitoring overtime, promoting responsible use of supplies and equipment, facilitating patient throughput, and ensuring operational decisions align with quality care and fiscal responsibility.

Office equipment, including telephone, computer and multifunction devices (MFDs).  Google’s G Suite, report writer and database software.
