Full Job Description
Provides legal advice and serves as in-house counsel to Strategic Education on a wide variety of matters.

This role is offered as remote or hybrid depending on location, we have two main offices in Minneapolis, MN and Herndon, VA. If local to the area you may be asked to come onsite as business needs come up. Otherwise, if not local to either location, you will work remote with some travel required throughout the year.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist with federal regulatory matters related to two accredited institutions of higher education.
  • Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings to which the company is a party.
  • Provide legal analysis and advice to administrators on policy matters, especially regulatory compliance and consumer protection issues.
  • Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators.
  • Negotiate and draft contracts: draft legal documents and policies.
  • Research federal and state legal questions.
  • Assist with general corporate matters.
  • Review university programs, procedures, and policies for legal compliance.
  • Provide legal and compliance training to in-house clients.

  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer/word processing skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability and willingness to apply independent judgment in a dynamic environment.


Work Experience:
  • At least three years of experience in the practice of law.
  • Higher education experience preferred.


Education:
  • Bachelor's degree and JD from an ABA-accredited law school.


Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • Bar admission in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland, or Washington, DC.
  • Attorneys admitted to states other than Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland or Washington, DC may apply for Corporate Counsel admission in Virginia.


Other:
  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Typical office setting.
  • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
  • Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
