Full Job Description
The City of Solon is seeking an experienced, motivated, and collaborative professional to serve as a full-time Assistant Fire Chief. As the department's second-in-command, the Assistant Fire Chief plays a key leadership role in supporting the Fire Chief and helping ensure the delivery of high-quality fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to the community.

This position provides leadership in administrative operations, fiscal management, facilities oversight, strategic planning, technology, personnel development, and operational readiness. The Assistant Fire Chief works closely with the Fire Chief to implement departmental priorities, oversee special projects, evaluate organizational performance, and promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement. The position also responds to significant emergency incidents, supports incident command, and assumes the duties and authority of the Fire Chief in their absence.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Administration, Public Administration, or a related field (relevant experience may be substituted for education)
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of fire and EMS experience
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible supervisory or command experience at the rank of Lieutenant or higher preferred
  • Ohio Firefighter II certification
  • Ohio Paramedic certification
  • State of Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification preferred.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required certifications and licenses as a condition of employment

This position offers a starting salary range of $94,095.19 - $112,914.23. City benefits include medical, prescription, dental, and vision, as well as membership in the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund, life insurance, vacation, sick leave accruals, and select paid holidays.
