Assistant Division Chief (Environmental Manager II) in Baltimore City. This positionis open to anyonewho meet the preferred qualifications below.
Nature of work: The main purpose of this position is to assist the Division Chief with the supervision, management, direction, and administration of work in the Environmental Programs Division (EPD) within the Office of Environmental Design (OED). The Assistant Division Chief (ADC) provides leadership and management support to a division responsible for supporting SHA's capital and operating programs regarding environmental permitting, compensatory mitigation, and environmental regulatory compliance. EPD is the lead division responsible for the avoidance and minimization of impacts to regulated natural resources (wetlands and waterways/trees/critical area) and for the planning, design, advertisement, monitoring, adaptive management, and remediation of all compensatory mitigation and stewardship projects. EPD is also the lead division responsible for SHA's wildlife program.

MDOT Benefits Guide Qualifications Preferred Qualifications:Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in natural sciences, earth science, physical science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, biology, agronomy, horticulture or related sciences, forestry, geography, environmental planning, civil engineering, sociology, economics, planning, anthropology, architectural history, or related fields such as ecology, landscape architecture, or environmental engineering.
Experience: Nine (9) years of experience in environmental analysis, to include the development of plans, specifications, estimates and design,
OR
Nine (9) years of experience in environmental management to include the development, implementation and monitoring of environmental compliance plans for air quality, storm water management, wastewater treatment, hazardous waste management, pollution prevention, solid waste management or multi-media operations,
Two (2) years of which must include experience supervising employees, consultants or contractors in an environmental area.
Two (2) years of experience in natural resource permitting and/or mitigation.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing/supervising professional teams, including environmental scientists and/or project managers. Notes: 1. Possession of a master's degree in one of the disciplines required may be substituted for one year of the required non-supervisory experience.
2. Possession of a doctorate's degree in one of the disciplines required may be substituted for two years of the required non-supervisory experience.
3. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Licenses & Certifications Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
