Title Assistant Director, Student Accounts
Position Summary The Assistant Director of Student Accounts assists in the monitoring of all student accounts office (SAO) receivables and collections activities at Bridgewater State University (BSU). Assists in the management of all SAO functions including student billing / tuition and fee assessment, cashiering, disbursement of federal, state, and BSU financial aid and scholarship programs, and timely request of student refunds. Monitors and manages delinquent collection balances, manages third party vendors/ billings, and reconciles several SAO related financial activities. Provides leadership and oversight to the department staff, and is responsible for ensuring high quality customer service, assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, and maintaining regulatory compliance. Occasional evening and/or weekend work required during peak times.
Supervision Received: The Assistant Director works under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Accounts and Associate Director of Student Accounts.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises supervision of various non-professional personnel in Student Accounts. Serves as the first line supervisor for non-professional staff in Student Accounts.
This is a 12-month, exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
Standard Schedule - 8:45 AM to 5:00 PM-Monday through Friday
Evening and weekend activities are sometimes required. (Staff in this role are expected to support various events including, but not limited to, MRISJ) Student employee meetings, service events
and campus activities that may fall on weekends or outside business hours. Flexibility is expected, as hours may shift to accommodate evening or weekend events.)

1. Assists the Director and Associate Director of Student Accounts in the planning, organization and administration of all Student Account activities including advising, student billing and collection.
2. Assigns and delegates work/tasks to the Student Accounts classified staff.
3. Primary liaison for external collection and billing including managing all accounts placed with third party billing and/or collection agencies.
4. Counsel and advise students, parents and other interest parties regarding matters involving student accounts. Serves as first line supervisor for any service related issue or complaint, particularly ensuring satisfactory resolution of problems before they are escalated to the senior administrative level.
5. Oversees collection activity related to student accounts and supervises monthly accounts receivable reconciliation to ensure accuracy, integrity and timeliness of fiscal records including but not limited to: outstanding receivables, financial appeals, annual discharged uncollectable accounts and monthly reporting and analysis.
6. Primary liaison for the student health insurance requirement including collaborating with the broker/plan manager for the student health insurance program (SHIP) in accordance with state regulations.
7. Primary contact for military and state agencies. Oversees contracts and receivables to the University.
8. Oversees remote deposit system management and daily deposit processing. Prepares daily student payment settlement and reconciliation to ensure compliance with state and federal regulation.
9. Review, monitor and implement internal control policies and procedures as they relate to Student Accounts and responsible for maintaining all training materials.
10. Supplies documents, schedules and information to external auditors and federal/state agencies
11. Acts as designee in the absence of the Associate Director of Student Accounts.
12. Assists Director and Associate Director of Student Accounts with various accounting and SAO reports and projects as required; other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor's degree in business/accounting/finance or closely related discipline.
- Three years of experience in Student Accounts or related field.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical capability and professional judgment are required.

- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to identify and set priorities; and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong work ethic, positive problem-solving attitude and enthusiasm for a collaborative working environment.
- Ability to effectively deal with sensitive fiscal issues and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications 1. Knowledge of Banner Accounts Receivable and Banner Finance or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to analyze data and prepare reports.
2. TouchNet cashiering experience.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of higher ed principles, practices and procedures as they relate to student account operations.
4. Knowledge of federal and state policies regarding financial aid.
5. Knowledge of credit and collection principles, processes, regulations and standards.
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with a demonstrated ability to execute tasks such as mail merges and pivot tables.
