Full Job Description
The Assistant Director, OR Equipment is primarily responsible for ensuring the timely setup of equipment in all Perioperative areas. This role ensures that all equipment functions as needed. The Assistant Director collaborates with the AVP of Perioperative Services and assists in providing oversight of the front-line Surgical Care Assistants who are primarily responsible for equipment set up in Operating Rooms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversight of daily tracking, maintenance, deployment and planning of assets.
  • With the AVP of Perioperative Services, collaboratively manage a workforce for point of care setup, testing, troubleshooting, breakdown, cleaning and storage of assets.
  • Preview the OR schedule to ensure availability/functionality of all equipment required for all procedures.
  • Responsible for room readiness and turnover with respect to equipment.
  • Ensures that equipment is tested and functional prior to surgery (when appropriate).
  • Create and implement Downtime / Backup plans.
  • Create and implement Disaster plans Manage the process of acquisition and deployment of physical beds and tables for all Perioperative Services locations.
  • Coordinate manufacturer recalls.
  • Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering and third-party vendors for repair, maintenance and replacements.
  • Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering for stat repairs.
  • Regularly reviews Biomedical Engineering Department dashboards, and reports performance of key KPIs to Perioperative Services leadership.
  • Work with Business Administrator and Biomedical Engineering to ensure that all equipment contracts are up-to-date.
  • Helps to determine service needs for new equipment and ensures adequate service coverage for equipment.
  • Limits vendor access to technical assistance or training only.
  • Business management - cost/utilization/benefit; strategic plan for determining life cycle asset management.
  • Coordinates the process for requisitioning and prioritizing capital equipment and prepares annual capital request list.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and reports relevant operational and financial metrics regarding equipment status, quality control processes, downtime, delays, adverse events, labor and supply costs, regulatory compliance, and others.
  • With the AVP of Perioperative Services, and as it pertains to equipment and OR set up, collaboratively ensures the administrative assessment of staff competencies are maintained.
  • Collaborates with the AVP of Perioperative Services on management of staff performance and discipline.

EXPERIENCE
  • 5 years of Operating Room Equipment experience, required

EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or GED, required

OTHER
  • Knowledge of OR daily operations.
  • Ability of manage life cycle of equipment.
  • Ability to create management reports as needed to report performance.
  • Leadership skills to manage staff and hold staff accountable for performance expectations.
