Assistant Director of Nursing

Key Responsibilities
The Utah Department of Health and Human Services, Correctional Health Services is hiring for an Assistant Director of Nursing.

The Assistant Director of Nursing will:
  • Interpret and implement pertinent procedures, standards, and regulations for nursing and/or ancillary medical care.
  • Administer appropriate nursing care within the generally recognized scope of practice.
  • Administer nursing policies for a state institution.
  • Assure the provision of quality nursing services.
  • Acts as the Nursing Director in his/her absence.
  • Prescribing nursing interventions to aid in the implementation of strategy of care.
  • May also direct or supervise nursing personnel.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess:
  • competency with medication administration to include various routes including injections and IV
  • competency with patient assessment
  • competency with communication of information to provider
  • the ability to provide medical guidance, training, and instruction in an administrative position
  • a solid understanding of principles, theories, and practices of nursing
  • the ability to follow and apply treatment plans developed by a licensed professional
  • an understanding of first aid and CPR
  • a knowledge of proper care to patients
  • a solid understanding of federal and/or state laws, regulations, policies and procedures

  • Licensure as a registered nurse (RN) in the state of Utah. Utah Code: 58-31b-301(2) (b)
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • If the employee is working in a correctional environment with an inmate population, safety and risk issues inherent while working within a correctional facility are presumed.


Qualifications
Minimum or "day-one" qualifications:
  • Licensed as an RN in the State of Utah
  • Bachelors Degree or higher in nursing or healthcare administration, Masters preferred
  • BLS, ACLS Certification

Preferred or trainable/on-the-job qualifications:
  • 2 years of experience in correctional healthcare
  • 2 years of clinical experience in a clinical role (med/surg, ER, critical care or psychiatric nursing)
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a full-time manager
  • BLS instructor and ACLS instructor certification
