Job Description
The Division of Marketing and Communications seeks an Assistant Director of Internal Communications to support the development, implementation and assessment of integrated communication and marketing strategies that advance university priorities and engage employee audiences.
The Assistant Director of Internal Communications plays a critical role in advancing the university's teaching, research and engagement mission by ensuring timely, accurate and strategic communications with faculty, staff and university leadership. This position directly supports Human Resources and Finance initiatives, including employee communications related to benefits, compensation, policy changes, compliance requirements, talent recruitment and retention, organizational transformation and financial stewardship. Effective communication in these areas is essential to maintaining an informed, engaged and productive workforce.
Working closely with the Director of Internal Communications, this position supports communications planning and messaging primarily on behalf of the university's administrative and operational functions, including Human Resources and Finance, serving audiences at both Mizzou and across the University of Missouri System.
From full-scale website refreshes to communications supporting critical employee processes and deadlines, this collaborative leader helps drive the internal communications team's success by providing strategic communications counsel and support to internal partners while ensuring effective engagement with target audiences.
Leads team of staff to develop and distribute communications to diverse internal audience(s), including faculty, staff and student workers at Mizzou and across the University of Missouri System.
Guides communication efforts primarily on behalf of the university's critical infrastructure, including the Offices of Human Resources and Finance
Collaborates closely with Director of Internal Communications to generate and circulate editorial calendar in support of key initiatives and organizational goals.
Counsels subject area leaders/content experts and recommends appropriate communication strategies to align short-term communications planning with editorial calendar and strategic goals.
Develops, implements and maintains processes and practices that enable, train and encourage team members (and internal partners, as appropriate) to provide effective strategy, creative and delivery.
Compose and edit internal and executive communications for production via multiple delivery channels. Includes review and approval of work completed by team members.
Coordinate with, and provide oversight to, team staff to prioritize and execute communication plans, create deliverables and publish messages.
Assist in tracking and monitoring communications results, developing programs for continuous improvement of process and campaign efficacy.
Act as champion for team, communications function and university, ensuring consistency across communication messages and experiences in keeping with brand and university values.
Shift
Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in communication, journalism, English, creative writing or other, similar programs demonstrating skill with the written word.
Previous experience with internal, employee and/or organizational communication.
Knowledge or familiarity with web management/content management systems (CMS) a plus.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000 per year
Grade: GGS 011
