Overview

The Assistant Director of Hospitality Accounting is responsible for managing bank account and balance sheet reconciliations, preparing financial statements, and overseeing intercompany billing and reconciliations across multiple hotels and entities. This role ensures the accuracy, consistency, and timely completion of all accounting activities while providing financial information, analysis, and support to the Director of Hospitality Accounting and the company's executive management team, as well as assisting with special projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the reconciliations for bank accounts and assigned balance sheet reconciliations timely and accurately.
  • Complete financial journal entries and statement preparation as assigned.
  • Be able to complete special projects timely and accurately as assigned.
  • Develop a working knowledge of accounting positions and functions and be able to perform these duties in the event of turnover, absence, or vacation at assigned properties.
  • Support Director of Hospitality Accounting in ensuring hotel's compliance with all regulatory licenses and permits, leases, contracts, legal agreements, and the proper execution of all operational taxes. Provide assistance to management in enforcing compliance on all these items.
  • Assist as assigned to ensure that critical operational procedures are accomplished daily to include credit card reconciliation and transmission, daily deposits, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, hotel assets, master keys, payroll, records retention, and employee records.
  • Continually focus on training and development programs for the accounting colleagues.
  • Attend meetings/training as required by management. Some may be at various locations within the Houston / Galveston area.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 6+ years of progressive experience in hotel accounting or related field and a 4-year college degree in Accounting/Finance. Previous Luxury or Forbes experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication and leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while effectively supervising and developing accounting staff in a fast-paced hospitality environment. Proficiency with accounting systems; strong knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays is required.
  • Physical demands: Ability to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis and prolonged extended periods of standing.
