Department Preferences

Clinical Oversight & Integration
The Perioperative Continuum: Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a holistic understanding of the patient journey from the surgical suite through acute recovery. The ideal candidate views the OR, PACU, and SICU as a single, integrated workflow rather than siloed departments.
High-Acuity Proficiency: Proven expertise in managing complex clinical scenarios common to all three areas, including advanced hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and immediate post-operative crisis intervention.
Standardization of Care: A strong preference for leaders who have successfully implemented standardized handoff protocols (e.g., IPASS or SBAR) specifically designed to bridge the gap between the OR circulator and the receiving Critical Care/Post-Anesthesia team.

Operational Efficiency & Throughput
Capacity Management: Advanced experience in "active bed management." The candidate should prefer data-driven approaches to align SICU bed availability with OR block scheduling to minimize boarding and cancellations.
Resource Agility: A track record of developing cross-training programs that allow for "flexing" staff between the PACU and SICU during peak surges or emergency scenarios.
Performance Metrics: Preference for candidates skilled in balancing diverse KPIs: First-Case On-Time Starts (FCOTS) and Turnaround Time (TAT) in the OR, alongside Length of Stay (LOS) and Aldrete score optimization in the PACU.

Leadership & Culture
Collaborative Governance: Preference for a leader who fosters a "Unit-Neutral" culture, encouraging surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff across all three departments to work toward shared throughput goals.
Quality & Safety Advocacy: Deep familiarity with HRO (High Reliability Organization) principles, with a focus on Surgical Site Infection (SSI) prevention, VAP bundles in the SICU, and "Never Event" mitigation in the OR.
Professional Development: A preference for candidates who actively mentor staff toward dual certifications (e.g., CNOR, CPAN, and CCRN) to elevate the clinical standard of the entire perioperative division.

Preferred Qualifications Summary

Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience specifically overseeing high-acuity surgical environments.

Clinical Background: Dual or triple experience in OR, PACU, and SICU is highly preferred to ensure technical credibility with diverse nursing teams.

Education/Certification: Master's degree (MSN/MHA/MBA) preferred. Professional certification in at least one of the three specialty areas is strongly desired.
