The Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Curriculum provides leadership and coordination for academic affairs, curriculum administration, assessment, and accreditation within the Bitonte College of Dentistry. This position collaborates with faculty and administration to ensure a coordinated educational experience for dental students.

Summary

The Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Curriculum provides leadership and coordination for academic affairs, curriculum administration, assessment, and accreditation within the Bitonte College of Dentistry. The position supports curriculum development and continuous improvement, ensures compliance with accreditation standards, oversees academic processes and documentation, and facilitates collaboration among faculty and administrative stakeholders to support an integrated, student-centered DDS curriculum.

Principal Functional Responsibilities

Curriculum:
  • Curriculum oversight and administration - Coordinate curriculum oversight, planning, scheduling, and administrative processes to ensure alignment with college policies, educational objectives, and CODA standards.
  • Resource coordination - Collaborate with academic leadership, Department Chairs, faculty, and administrative stakeholders to coordinate faculty, instructional technology, learning space, and other resources necessary for effective curriculum delivery.
  • Continuous improvement and innovation - Facilitate collaborative initiatives that support continuous improvement of academic programs and the student educational experience, including educational innovation and evidence-based teaching and learning practices.
  • Interprofessional education - Facilitate the development and integration of interprofessional education opportunities throughout the curriculum, in collaboration with faculty and academic leadership.
  • Assessment and evaluation - Coordinate curriculum and teaching assessment and evaluation processes, including collection, analysis, and reporting of data to support continuous improvement; support faculty and course directors with assessment and evaluation activities, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Monitoring and reporting to leadership - Monitor curriculum processes and outcomes to identify and communicate opportunities for improvement to the Dean and appropriate stakeholders.
  • Documentation and accreditation - Oversee the preparation, organization, and maintenance of curriculum, assessment, accreditation, and other academic documentation and reports required by the College, NEOMED, and external accrediting bodies.


Accreditation:
  • Accreditation Planning - Develop and coordinate a comprehensive accreditation plan for the College, including policies, procedures, timelines, and processes that support ongoing readiness and compliance.
  • CODA Liaison - Serve as the primary administrative liaison to the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), coordinating communications, submissions, reporting requirements, and accreditation activities on behalf of the Bitonte College of Dentistry (BCOD).
  • Self-Study Preparation - Lead the preparation and submission of the CODA self-study and related materials, coordinating the collection, organization, and maintenance of documentation and evidence of compliance.
  • Site Visits and Accreditation Activities - Coordinate accreditation site visits, mock reviews, meetings, webinars, and other accreditation activities, ensuring effective communication and participation among College and University stakeholders.
  • Standards Monitoring and Institutional Coordination - Monitor changes to CODA standards and requirements, communicate updates to appropriate stakeholders, maintain accreditation records and deadlines, and coordinate BCOD materials supporting NEOMED's Higher Learning Commission (HLC) compliance and institutional accreditation activities.


Committees:
  • Committee Structure and Governance - Coordinate the structure, administration, and ongoing activities of BCOD committees in collaboration with the Dean and College leadership, ensuring alignment with academic, operational, and CODA requirements; advise the Dean and senior leadership on committee charters, responsibilities, membership, and governance processes to support effective College operations and accreditation.
  • Records and Documentation - Centralize and maintain official committee and faculty meeting minutes, records, action items, and related documentation to support governance, institutional continuity, and accreditation requirements.
  • Communication, Facilitation, and Participation - Facilitate communication and follow-through among committees, faculty, academic leadership, and University offices; provide administrative leadership for curriculum and academic oversight committees, and participate in College and University committees, task forces, and working groups as assigned.


Strategic Planning:
  • Monitor and manage the Academic Affairs department budget, provide input to other budgetary areas in the BCOD.
  • Participate in strategic planning activities for the College of Dentistry and make strategic recommendations aligned with the mission, vision and values of the college, as well as CODA standards.


Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a healthcare, education or in a related area, or Ed.D.
  • Required high-level administrative experience in higher education at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in education administration, curricular development and implementation.
  • Administrative experience in curriculum development with an in-depth understanding and knowledge of academic accreditation processes, preferably the requirements and expectations of CODA.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to champion education within an academic institution, as well as among a wide range of external constituencies.
