Job Title: Assistant Corporate Controller
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Classification: Full Time, Salary- Exempt
About this opportunity
Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. is hiring an Assistant Corporate Controller to help lead corporate financial reporting, sharpen project and company-wide insights, and strengthen audit-ready processes. Reporting to the CFO, you'll partner closely with Division Controllers and project teams to deliver accurate, GAAP-compliant reporting-especially around Work-in-Process (WIP) and revenue recognition-while driving continuous improvement through standard work, automation, and thoughtful use of AI tools.
What you'll do
- Lead key parts of the monthly close-review journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure timely, accurate financial statements.
- Own and elevate WIP reporting: partner with cost control and project teams to validate percent complete, cost-to-complete, projected margin changes, and proper revenue recognition.
- Turn project and financial data into clear insights-job cost and earned revenue performance, over/under billings, change orders, contingencies, and risk/opportunity trends.
- Prepare monthly management reporting packages and KPI analysis (gross margin, backlog, cash trends, working capital metrics, and more).
- Support consolidation and intercompany/joint venture reporting as needed; help ensure consistent accounting policies across entities/branches.
- Be a go-to technical partner-support accounting staff and project teams on policy application and reporting questions.
- Play a major role in annual audit preparation and external auditor requests; maintain clean support schedules and an excellent audit trail.
- Provide tax return support (workpapers, schedules, and advisor requests) and assist with year-end planning analysis.
- Improve close and reporting processes through better standard workpapers, and automation.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including 2+ years in construction accounting (required).
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Hands-on WIP and job-cost reporting experience, including percent complete and cost-to-complete review.
- Audit readiness mindset-organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable coordinating schedules and responding to requests.
- Ability to communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance partners and to coach/mentor others.
