Full Job Description
Dulles Plumbing Group, a VMG Company, is looking for an Assistant Controller to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to expand their experience within the construction industry and take on greater responsibility across accounting, financial reporting, and project financial management.

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Assistant Controller will play an important role in the day-to-day accounting operations of the business. This individual will work closely with our accounting team, Project Managers, and operational leadership to maintain accurate financial information, monitor project performance, and support the continued growth of the organization.

What You'll Do
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, general ledger activity, and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with financial statements and management reporting.
  • Review job costing, project financials, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
  • Monitor project costs, revenue, margins, billings, and other financial activity.
  • Partner with Project Managers and operations leaders to support accurate project forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Oversee and support accounts payable and assist with accounts receivable and billing.
  • Assist with payroll processing and related accounting functions.
  • Support cash management, budgeting, and financial forecasting.
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Support annual financial audits and preparation of supporting documentation.
  • Assist with fixed assets, business licenses, BPOL, personal property taxes, and other financial requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, controls, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide guidance and support to accounting team members.
  • Assist finance and executive leadership with financial analysis, special projects, and other initiatives.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Construction, mechanical contracting, general contracting, or specialty contracting experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting strongly preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting or ERP systems.
  • CPA or CPA candidate is a plus but not required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both financial and operational teams.
