We are intentionally seeking someone who can grow into USG's future Controller and, over time, become a key member of the company's leadership team.

Assistant Controller - Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate financial records, journal entries, general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and monthly financial reports.
  • Help lead month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, reconciliations, general ledger review, financial statement preparation, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • Support the transition and development of USG's independent accounting operations, financial reporting structure, processes, documentation, and internal controls.
  • Review payroll for accuracy, proper authorization, compliance, labor allocation, and job-cost coding, and coordinate with internal team members and third-party payroll providers.
  • Maintain, optimize, and expand the effective use of Vista ERP, including financial reporting, job-cost reporting, workflow efficiency, data integrity, and user adoption.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, financial analysis, and scenario modeling to help company leadership make informed business decisions.
  • Manage and improve construction and project-based accounting activities, including job costing, work-in-progress reporting, revenue recognition, project cost tracking, equipment costing, and project-profitability analysis.
  • Partner with Operations and Project Management to review job performance, identify cost or billing concerns, improve financial accountability, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Develop financial dashboards, key performance indicators, and management reports that improve visibility into projects, service lines, equipment, and overall company performance.
  • Support fixed-asset accounting, fleet and equipment cost tracking, capital-expenditure reporting, and asset-related financial controls.
  • Help establish, document, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls that promote accuracy, consistency, compliance, and accountability.
  • Assist with annual audits, tax preparation, insurance renewals, bonding requirements, banking relationships, lender reporting, and other external financial requests, as applicable.
  • Supervise and support accounting and office team members while helping develop the structure and capabilities of USG's future accounting department.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, reporting enhancements, automation opportunities, and technology solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Provide financial insight and recommendations that help leadership manage risk, improve profitability, and support continued company growth.
  • Protect confidential employee, payroll, banking, company, and financial information.
