Title: Assistant Conflict Defender I - Family Court

Salary: $86,749 - $120,080 annually

Agency/Dept.: Conflict Defender's Office

Description of Duties

This is an attorney position located at the Department of Public Safety, Conflict Defender's Office responsible for the legal representation of indigent persons entitled to public defense and who cannot be represented by the Public Defender's Office due to a conflict of interest. This title differs from the Assistant Conflict Defender Grade II title by virtue of mentoring and training less experienced attorneys, ensuring daily coverage of attorneys at courts, assisting Conflict Defender in hiring new staff and determining annual court assignments. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Conflict Defender or higher-level staff member. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
  1. The Assistant Conflict Defender shall be an attorney duly licensed to practice law in the State of New York.
  1. The Assistant Conflict Defender must have the ability to build relationships with clients and possess clear and effective communication skills.
  1. The Assistant Conflict Defender must show a commitment to clients and exceptional advocacy.
