Job Title:
Assistant Chief Engineer - Critical Environments

What this job involves:
This position supervises and directs operating engineers in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all base building and critical system machinery and equipment. You will be responsible for overseeing the operational team on your shift, ensuring continuous operation of all building systems, and assuming the Chief Engineer's responsibilities when they are not on site. The role requires maintaining the highest level of professionalism while meeting client needs and achieving 100% uptime across all critical systems in a data center/critical facility environment.

Your day-to-day tasks will include:
• Supervising and directing maintenance staff on shift, monitoring performance of assigned responsibilities and ensuring efficient completion of all service requests with minimal disruption
• Checking malfunctioning equipment, diagnosing issues, and determining corrective actions required to restore satisfactory operating conditions
• Providing hands-on training and supervision to expand operations staff capabilities, including proper tool use, basic maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and troubleshooting techniques
• Supervising and implementing the preventative maintenance program by scheduling tasks, delegating to qualified staff, ordering necessary parts and equipment, and maintaining inventory
• Maintaining, monitoring, and performing preventive maintenance on all building systems including fire/life safety, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switchgear, emergency backup systems, and hot water systems
• Overseeing contractor activities within the building, ensuring timely performance of maintenance contract work, fulfillment of equipment warranty obligations, and collection of equipment manuals and drawings
• Keeping detailed records of building rounds, readings, engineering logs, and data sheets while ensuring strict adherence to Critical Awareness Process, Technical Bulletins, and established guidelines
• Managing operational inventory of tools and supplies by preparing purchase orders, developing sources for materials, and performing periodic supply checks
• Responding to site emergencies and complying with emergency escalation procedures while maintaining safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials

Desired experience and technical skills:

Requirements:
  • Hands-on experience in a data center/critical facility, including UPS Systems, emergency generators, and switchgear
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • 5+ years of related work experience, including supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations, and codes
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before small groups
  • Working knowledge or capability to develop proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and other software packages
  • Ability to professionally interact with tenants and contractors
  • Physical ability to walk large campus-like settings, climb ladders up to 30 feet, lift minimum 50 lbs, work from heights, and navigate rooftops
  • Ability to work different schedules, holidays, on-call rotation, and respond to site emergencies

  • CMMS Work Order System(s) experience

Estimated compensation for this position:

95,600.00 - 116,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
