DESCRIPTION

The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. Responsibilities:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and care of athletic injuries and medical concerns. Develop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for Intercollegiate Athletics as well as perform professional and administrative services as assigned.

Athletic trainers will be present at all home and some away competitive events, maintain standard office hours, be present or on call for all practices. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced athletic training professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The incumbent must follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department, NCAA, California Collegiate Athletic Association and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms. This position will require night and weekend work as well as travel. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or Graduate equivalent from a CAATE accredited athletic training education program; Master's preferred. Must have one year (two years preferred) post-graduate experience in athletic training under the direct supervision of an NATA-certified athletic trainer.
  • Must have current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED, or equivalent certification from another agency. Certification as an instructor in First Aid and CPR/AED highly preferred.
  • Must be a NATABOC certified in good standing. Must have a minimum of one-year post degree experience in athletic training working under direct supervision of an NATABOC- certified Athletic Trainer.
  • Must be NATABOC certified and have current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (Instructor level preferred).
  • Thorough skills associated with athletic injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques, as well as of first-aid, athletic equipment, and injury assessment and treatment. Detailed, specific knowledge of the competencies and domains of athletic training.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters involving athletic injuries and treatments.
  • Thorough knowledge of electronic medical records systems required.
  • For positions associated with Sports Medicine, must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times, avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
  • Strong ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with others, including athletes, team physicians, faculty, staff and others in the athletic department.
  • Strong skills necessary to communicate verbally and in writing. Skill in oral and written communications to insure clear and effective direction and communication.
  • Strong ability to organize and prioritize work assignments and complete assignments within required timelines.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group.
  • Strong manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine.
  • Skill in the use of various athletic training aids (tape, wraps, modalities, exercise programs, massage, etc.) necessary to successful application of athletic training methods.
  • Knowledge of sound coaching principles and techniques for a variety of sports as they apply to athletic injury prevention.
  • Knowledge of organizational and management principles as they apply to the development of athletic training operations.
  • Knowledge of sound teaching techniques necessary to train and instruct student interns.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Valid Driver's License may be required. Incumbent may participate in the DMV Pull program and maintain a clean DMV record.
  • This position is a mandated reporter of known or suspected child abuse or neglect, according to the California law, Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).
  • This position is a campus security authority (CSA) for the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which is a federal law requiring disclosure of information about crimes on and around campus.
