Department: Corp & Foundation Relations Salary: Commensurate with experience
Description:

Manages a portfolio of major gifts donors and prospects in support of university-wide initiatives or for one or more assigned colleges or units. Possesses a high level of knowledge and expertise on major gifts and fundraising in general, and at least a mid-level knowledge of planned giving.

1. Manages a portfolio of prospects which are mostly at the level of $100,000 to more.
2. Identifies, cultivates and solicits prospects and stewards donors; works with faculty, staff and volunteers as appropriate.
3. Provides guidance to the college or unit on major gifts, other developments, and fundraising matters.
4. If assigned to a college or unit, may be responsible for creating and implementing a development plan for components within the assigned college, including resource management.
5. May administer other advancement activities, such as alumni relations, publications, special events, media relations, etc. for an assigned college or unit.
6. Participates in University-wide development activities as needed.
7. Performs other job-related duties as required.

MQ: Education; Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

Assistant Director:
Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.

Associate Director:
Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

Director:
Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

Working with all UH colleges and units, this individual will proactively identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation partners, matching funding opportunities with projects throughout the University. This position:
  • Manages a portfolio of local, regional and national foundations; initiating and maintaining relationships with foundation program officers and directors.
  • Draft, edit, review, and finalize philanthropic proposals in close coordination with faculty, ensuring tight alignment with foundation focus areas.
  • Research new foundation initiatives and funding programs that may intersect with UH program activities.

  • Direct experience in foundation relations within higher education, with documented success in securing major awards.
  • Excellent proposal development and writing skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with foundation partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a range of Academic and Advancement staff
