Description: The Asphalt Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the asphalt department, including plant operations, repair teams, dispatch, and trucking logistics. Working closely with asphalt area managers and company leadership, this role supports daily planning, resource coordination, capital tracking, and safe, efficient operations while promoting a positive and productive work environment.

Essential Functions of the Position:
• Oversee daily asphalt operations, including production, maintenance, dispatch, trucking, and related field activities.
• Lead and support department supervisors and employees to meet safety, production, quality, and customer-service expectations.
• Coordinate labor, equipment, and daily priorities to ensure production schedules and customer commitments are met.
• Promote a positive and accountable work environment that supports teamwork, communication, and employee development.
• Enforce company safety policies and applicable OSHA, AQMD, Caltrans, DOT, and environmental requirements.
• Monitor production, plant downtime, material usage, trucking utilization, and operating costs to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, parts purchasing, and plant shutdowns with the maintenance and repair teams.
• Assist with plant improvements, equipment replacements, capital projects, and tracking approved expenditures.
• Oversee dispatch and trucking coordination to support timely deliveries and effective fleet utilization.
• Work with Sales, Quality Control, Operations, and customers to address production needs, quality concerns, scheduling, and customer service.
• Provide operational updates and recommendations to senior leadership.

Skills and Knowledge:
• Considerable experience in asphalt production, plant operations, mechanics, and paving.
• Strong understanding of asphalt placement, quality control, and production processes.
• Ability to manage a team, including fostering a positive culture, maintaining high morale, and ensuring safety on the job.• Ability to lead supervisors and employees while maintaining accountability, safety, teamwork, and positive morale.
• Experience managing dispatch operations and coordinating trucking logistics.
• Ability to review production reports, operating costs, and capital expenditures.
• Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage challenging situations.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work with customers, employees, and other departments.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate construction equipment as needed.
• Certifications in asphalt technology, OSHA safety, or project management are a plus.

Requirements:
• Seven (7) or more years of experience in asphalt production, plant operations, paving, maintenance, or heavy civil construction preferred.
• Three (3) or more years of supervisory or management experience in asphalt, construction materials, or a related operating environment preferred.
• Strong mechanical and operational knowledge of asphalt plant systems, equipment, safety, quality, and customer service.
• Valid Class C driver's license with an acceptable driving record under company standards.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, follow written and verbal instructions, and receive direction, feedback, and coaching.
