Full Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Asphalt General Manager to oversee the safe, and efficient operation of multiple asphalt plants in the greater St. Louis region. This leadership role is responsible for driving operational excellence, developing high-performing teams, ensuring quality production, managing customer relationships, and optimizing plant performance. The ideal candidate has a strong background in asphalt production, a passion for safety, and the ability to lead people while balancing production, quality, and customer demands in a fast-paced environment.

Asphalt General Manager Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and company safety standards while promoting safe work practices.
  • Develop an operational strategy for the market area. Identify operational deficiencies and areas of opportunity based on systematic processes. Optimize fixed and mobile equipment utilization, and plant personnel, while ensuring customer satisfaction through excellence in quality, production, and delivery.
  • Maintain and promote a consistent professional best in class image in all operations, including housekeeping, storage, equipment condition, site entrance, signage, and buildings.
  • Hire, develop, coach, and manage team members in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Interpret DOT and commercial project plans, develop asphalt mix solutions, and prepare accurate customer quotations.
  • Oversee and manage raw materials required for hot mix asphalt production, including asphalt cement, aggregates, and other additives.
  • Direct daily cross-departmental coordination to synchronize upcoming plant demand activities with quality control demands, ensuring seamless project execution and zero-defect mix production.
  • Develops strong customer relationships and utilizes continuous feedback to improve products and services.
  • Oversee the operations of multiple (2-3 to start) portable and stationary asphalt plants throughout the St. Louis region.


Asphalt General Manager Requirements & Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of asphalt production experience with strong knowledge of asphalt materials, plant operations, and civil construction.
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience with a proven ability to develop and motivate high-performing teams.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of how an asphalt plant works and maintain the ability to run a plant if situation arises.
  • Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations governed by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, including OSHA/MSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Solid financial and business acumen.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and multiple priorities efficiently, while working under pressure of changing deadlines
  • Valid drivers' license and ability to maintain a clean motor vehicle record required; commercial license a plus
  • Proficient computer skills, including use of MS Office products
