As an Asphalt & Crusher Plant Technologist, you will be responsible for ensuring that the materials produced from asphalt and crush plant meet customer's requirements, standards and ensuring delivery of the produced materials in a cost effective and cost competitive manner to the customers. Primary duties include:
- Ensure and maintain the quality control of the asphalt concrete and aggregate production.
- Assist city paving operations on quality control of asphalt paving during construction season to ensure materials, construction and smoothness specifications are met.
- Support Plants Coordinator in the contract administration of several ongoing supply and service contracts for the supply of new equipment, construction facilities, contract material hauling, contracted material supply and contracted material processing.
- Monitor production and report on progress compared to annual targets.
- Review and verify contractor's invoices, and review of various equipment supply contracts.
- Complete daily asphalt mix, aggregate quality, quantity analysis and compilation and ensure the recording of daily information vital to the costing analysis and comparison of day to day operations.
- Provide assistance to the crusher plan layout plans and setup.
- Assist in parts ordering and inventory updates, plant upgrades, environmental compliance, specification and acquisition of new equipment and winter maintenance of existing equipment.
- Research best practices and assist in preparation of financial reports to various interested parties.
- Collaborate with others in the Business Unit, outside vendors and contractors.
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and at least 5 years of experience in asphalt technology and materials testing that includes aggregate analysis.
- Applicants must be eligible for membership in the Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET).
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than six demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Basic level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of asphalt technology as well as Marshall and SuperPave Methods of Mix Design of Asphalt Concrete Design is also considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires effective communication skills, strong technical focus, safety orientation and the ability to deal with members of the public.
- Demonstrated excellent coaching skills along with strong organizational and time management skills.
