Responsibilities & Expectations:

The Power Transformer Field Service Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the power transformer field service business based out of the Denver Kingston Service Center. The primary focus of this business is preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, relocation, installation, and start-up assistance on power and special transformers at customer facilities.

Commercial:
  • Serves as the primary commercial spokesperson for the Power Transformer Field Service Business.
  • Meet with customers/IPS Account Managers and conduct site visits to define project scopes of work.
  • Lead quotations activities for field service projects including building job cost estimations, soliciting quotations for rental equipment, subcontractors, and transportation.
  • Coordinate technician/equipment/project schedules, communicate project plans to Local Management Team, IPS Account Managers, and customers.
  • Work with customer and seller to receive PO for jobs.
  • Perform Voice of the Customer reviews to continuously improve customer experience and drive value for IPS.
  • Partners with the Area General Manager (AGM) to set sales strategies & targets.
  • Provides leadership support, issue resolution, and guidance, including after-hours or weekend availability as required.

  • Ensure staff is properly trained to work safely, to provide quality repairs, and to meet customer and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate as part of Denver Kingston Management Team.
  • Partner with AGM to develop an Annual People Plan (APP) to address workforce planning and training.
  • Works occasional nights and weekends to ensure the best outcomes for employees and customers.

Operations:
  • Manage all power transformer field service activities for multiple crews across the United States.
  • Coordinate with Denver Kingston Shop Team as needed for turnkey projects.
  • Scheduling/managing subcontractors, rental equipment, material delivery, transportation, and travel arrangements.
  • Ensure daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspections and audits are completed and findings are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Manage maintenance and calibration activities for field service equipment.
  • Generate field service reports documenting work performed by field technicians and submit to customers and IPS Account Managers.
  • Prepare paperwork to Invoice jobs on a timely basis, resolving any issues promptly.
  • Collect and archive all job details on IPS server (job cost detail, subcontractor quotes, material lists, reports, schedules, photos, etc.).
  • Engages with customers, regulatory agencies, suppliers, and senior management to maintain safety, quality, and performance standards.
  • Develops work schedules, manages budgets, and initiates capital equipment purchases.
  • Ensures continuous production, service quality, and cost control.
  • Collaborates across regional and corporate teams to drive execution.

Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Five years of experience in power transformer field service (oil processing, regasketing, component replacement) on 230kV class equipment or higher.
  • Deep understanding of power transformer construction and maintenance.
  • Experience with special transformers is preferred.
  • Two years of experience managing teams in a union environment preferred.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and hold teams accountable.
  • Strong communication skills - able to effectively communicate with diverse audiences from customers to technicians to senior leadership.
  • Ability to make decisions and take action when time or customer pressures are apparent.
  • Knowledge of HR, budgeting, contracts, P&L management, and financial statements is preferred.
  • Results-Driven - Takes accountability for business outcomes and prioritizes key success factors.
  • Strong computer skills - proficient in MS office, Adobe, and testing software (including, but not limited to, Doble, Vanguard, Omicron).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, specifically Traverse and business intelligence platforms like DOMO is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to travel regionally.
  • Flexible with hours, overtime, and some weekend work as required to meet customer needs and support field team.
  • Specific safety, environmental, health training preferred:
    • OSHA 10 or 30
    • MSHA 30 CFR Part 48 A or Part B
    • Electrical Safety NFPA 70E or equivalent
    • Lock Out Tag Out and control of hazardous energy
    • Spill prevention and control

Pay Rate Details:

$120,000 - $150,000 per year
