Full Job Description
Area Director of Operations

Anchorage, Alaska (On-Site)

This position is based in Anchorage, Alaska. Candidates must currently reside in or be willing to relocate to the Anchorage area. Regular travel between local hotel properties is required.

JL Hospitality Management is seeking an experienced, hands-on Area Director of Operations to oversee a portfolio of hotels throughout the Anchorage market. This position provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to multiple General Managers while driving financial performance, guest satisfaction, associate engagement, and brand compliance.

What You'll Do
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and support to General Managers and hotel leadership teams.
  • Drive revenue growth, profitability, labor management, and operational excellence across multiple hotels.
  • Hold leaders accountable for operational standards, guest satisfaction, financial performance, and company initiatives.
  • Review financial reports, labor metrics, guest feedback, and operational trends to identify opportunities and develop action plans.
  • Conduct regular property visits to ensure brand standards, cleanliness, safety, and service expectations are consistently met.
  • Partner with Human Resources on recruiting, associate relations, leadership development, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Revenue Management, and Accounting teams to achieve company objectives.
  • Lead hotel openings, transitions, renovations, and special projects as needed.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for General Managers by providing guidance, removing obstacles, and supporting sound business decisions.
  • Foster a culture built on accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and exceptional guest service.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isn't measured solely by hotel performance. It's reflected in the strength of the leaders you develop and the consistency of the operations you oversee.

The successful Area Director will:
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with General Managers while holding them accountable for results.
  • Develop leaders who are confident, engaged, and prepared for future growth opportunities.
  • Drive consistent financial performance through strong labor management, revenue awareness, and expense control.
  • Maintain high guest satisfaction scores and brand standards across every hotel.
  • Identify operational challenges early and implement practical, sustainable solutions.
  • Partner effectively with Human Resources, Sales, Revenue Management, Accounting, and Corporate Support to achieve company goals.
  • Create a positive culture where associates feel supported, expectations are clear, and accountability is consistent.
  • Lead with integrity, professionalism, and a willingness to be present in the hotels, not just reviewing reports from behind a desk.

What We're Looking For
  • Five or more years of progressive hotel operations leadership experience.
  • Multi-property leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous General Manager, Regional Director, Area Director, or similar multi-unit leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop leadership teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, labor costs, forecasting, and profitability.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple properties and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Marriott experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
