Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven individual to join our sales team as an Architectural and Design Representative. This key role is responsible for securing high-quality paint schedules and specifications for our premium paint products. This position plays a crucial role in driving sales and expanding the brand’s presence by building and maintaining relationships within the architectural and design community. By leveraging industry knowledge, the representative will provide tailored solutions and influence product selection, contributing to the success of high-profile projects. The territory covers Dallas, Texas. Ideally, the successful candidate will be based within 30 miles of the city center.

 

Market Strategy, Development and Execution  

  • Develop and execute a strategic account plan to achieve goals within the architectural and design (A&D) segment in partnership and under the direction of the Area Sales Manager  
  • Identify and prioritize key accounts across architectural and design firms to establish and nurture relationships with high value clients  
  • Determine account optimization across various sectors with a focus on high-end residential, identifying key opportunities to maximize growth and enhance client relationships 
  • Actively prospect and engage with architects, designers, and specifiers to promote our brand, resulting in Benjamin Moore being specified in future projects 
  • Qualify and manage provided leads, and/or self-source leads, to secure paint schedules and specifications with a focus on high end residential projects  

Act as the Go-To Authority and Paint Expert

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the Benjamin Moore brand, product portfolio, color offerings, and more, while collaborating with the relevant internal Benjamin Moore subject matter experts as needed 
  • Provide comprehensive education to architects and designers through presentations, continued education courses, and meetings, highlighting the “why” behind specifying Benjamin Moore paint and color  
  • Act as an extension of clients' teams, serving as the paint expert to provide guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle  
  • Offer white glove service in writing and reviewing paint schedules and specifications 
  • Provide retailer support for A&D-aligned efforts, including in-store color consultant engagement and presentations 

Project Management  

  • Monitor project opportunities across all stages, keeping detailed records of paint schedules, specifications, and timelines  
  • Ensure effective follow-up with clients and alignment between the Territory Representative and painter for successful project execution  
  • Conduct job site visits with the Territory Representative to assess project needs, provide on-site support, and ensure proper implementation of paint schedules and specifications 

Act as a Brand Advocate and Build Client Relationships  

  • Participate in industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities to enhance brand visibility, grow our network within the A&D community, and uncover new project opportunities  
  • Produce local events to promote brand awareness, engage with the A&D community, and showcase our products and services  
  • As a secondary priority to A&D clients, target key design schools to engage with the emerging segment, fostering relationships and identifying opportunities for business growth with future talent 
  • Cultivate a deep passion for industry and stay continuously informed about its trends, competitors, and developments to seize opportunities and address challenges 

Strategic Market Intelligence and Business Acumen  

  • Utilize analytical skills to review, analyze, and summarize market reports, identifying trends and potential for business growth  
  • Leverage available marketing materials, tools, and resources, and work closely with the A&D Marketing Manager to request custom materials as needed 
  • Optimize time at the desk and in the field, prioritizing in-person meetings and client engagement to strengthen relationships and foster effective collaboration 
  • Maintain a direct feedback loop on relevant or critical matters with the A&D HQ team 
  • Submit accurate reports and documentation into CRM on a weekly basis 
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite 

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent experience 
  • 3+ years’ of experience working directly with the A&D segment  
  • Prior experience developing and executing account plans to increase sales 
  • High sales aptitude with a self-driven and results-oriented mindset 
  • Ability to understand and communicate to the A&D segment our Benjamin Moore brand value proposition 
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and self-souring specifications and finish schedules while managing the project lifecycle through to install  
  • Proficiency in relevant software programs including MS Office and CRM  
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, listening, and public speaking skills 
  • Strong motivational abilities with the capacity to inspire and guide others 
  • Proven time management skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively 
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent team collaboration skills for working effectively with colleagues and clients 
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required 
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed 
  • Must be able to travel overnight to attend meetings, conferences, and trade shows 
  • Must reside in the desired geography or be willing to relocate
