Summary:

Rankin Automation is expanding our engineering team to support the growth of automation in manufacturing. The Application Engineer will be a contributing engineer who is primarily a technical resource to support the sales team and helps salespeople and customers select the best solution within Rankin Automation's product lines. This role will focus on solving manufacturing problems using robotics, pneumatics, motion control, sensors, and safety devices. Essential Functions:
  • Possess top-level technical knowledge of industrial automation products - Key Suppliers are
    • Festo, Sick, Mitsubishi, ABB, Schmalz, 80/20, Standard Bots, Balluff
  • Assist engineering and production team in building robotic/pneumatic/electromechanical solutions
  • Design, configure, and troubleshoot pneumatic/electromechanical solutions
  • Assist customers in choosing the right solution/components for their application
  • Assist salespeople in learning the products and how to position them in our market
  • Work with collaborative robots, grippers, and sensors to create automation solutions at customer sites
  • Provide presentations to customers and internal staff on engineering solutions
  • Provide product demonstrations for key supplier products

Competencies:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with Industrial Automation Hardware (Pneumatics, Motion Control, Robotics, PLCs, etc.)
  • Experience designing Pneumatic and Electrical Automation Solutions
  • Self-starter that will take direction and execute a plan with little supervision
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and TEAMS
    • Proficient with AutoCAD or equivalent design tools
    • Comfortable designing electrical and pneumatic circuits
    • Ideally have working knowledge of PLCs or industrial PCs


Work Environment:

This job operates in an office located in Conshohocken, PA. This role may involve travel throughout the region to visit clients and prospective clients. This role requires the use of standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. The job requires the ability to travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic region as well as attend sales training, meetings, and supplier training.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work;

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or Technical Degree
  • Two or more years of Industrial Automation Application or Design Engineering experience
  • Prior work-related use of Microsoft Office tools


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Over five years of Industrial Automation Engineering or manufacturing experience
  • Experience programming PLCs or industrial computers
  • BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering
