Position Summary We are seeking an
Application Engineer to join our EtaPRO Application Engineering team in Amherst, NY. The Application Engineer independently develops, configures, implements, and commissions real-time performance and condition-monitoring solutions for power generation and energy-industry customers. The role applies engineering judgment and knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and plant performance to analyze operating conditions, diagnose performance issues, and deliver complete technical work products.
Key Responsibilities- Review plant design information, piping and instrumentation diagrams, heat balances, and process data to define plant configuration and monitoring requirements.
- Develop EtaPRO performance-monitoring systems by configuring models, displays, reports, and systems of equations that meet project requirements.
- Build thermodynamic and pattern-recognition models of plant components and cycles to assess equipment performance and condition.
- Apply thermodynamic and empirical methods to interpret performance deviations and diagnose causes of off-design operation.
- Develop diagnostic flow charts and technical approaches for complex plant-performance and equipment-condition issues.
- Own assigned engineering deliverables and coordinate requirements, priorities, and schedules with project teams and customers.
- Participate in customer meetings and communicates technical information needed to complete implementation activities.
- Deliver end-user training and conduct FastStart meetings to support effective use of EtaPRO systems.
- Commission EtaPRO systems independently and resolve routine implementation issues.
- Identify recurring technical or execution issues and recommend improvements to methods, tools, or project practices.
Travel- Occasional travel up to 10%
Education and Required Experience- Bachelor of Science degree required in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an engineering role.
- Engineering experience involving technical analysis, equipment performance, plant systems, software configuration, or related engineering support preferred.
- Experience working in the power industry preferred.
- Experience applying engineering principles to assess plant or equipment performance preferred.
- Working knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and power plant
- performance principles is desired.
- Ability to interpret plant design documents, piping and instrumentation diagrams, heat balances, process data, and technical documentation.
- Ability to independently perform engineering analysis, configure monitoring solutions, and diagnose off-design plant performance.
- Experience with SQL or PostgreSQL databases, SQL Server Management Studio, pgAdmin, instrumentation, data acquisition, or data processing is a plug.
