Job Summary Michigan Anesthesiology Informatics and Systems Improvement Exchange (MAISE) is part of the University of Michigan Department of Anesthesiology. We are a group made up collectively of IT, business, and health care professionals. Our goal is to leverage IT to its fullest to improve patient safety and creates better health care outcomes.
In this position, you will work under the direct supervision of the MAISE Manager. Depending on your experience, on-the-job training on health systems environment will be provided. Your primary role is to learn the electronic health system and how they are used here at Michigan. Understanding the data schema and the context by which the data are being collected is critical in its subsequent downstream application. You will use relational databases like SQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL or other relational databases. You will provide custom solutions impacting the electronic health record system, or its downstream customers like Finance, Billing, QA, and Research. The custom solution may involve updating current software developed in-house, or a brand-new solution that needs to be scoped, designed, and built from scratch.

Responsibilities*- Under general direction, formulates and defines system scope and objectives.
- Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results.
- Work with other departments/institutions in formulating technical solutions on data integrations.
- Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written. Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents those programs.
- Competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities. May be responsible for completion of a phase of a project.
- Work with hospital team to understand hospital workflow and assist with the implementation and support of hospital systems. This includes hardware/software used in patient care settings. Assist with the implementation and support of medical device integration and waveform data.
- Work may include data science related work
- Intermediate level - Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and consult with lead authority to make decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction on lesser projects, and within the scope of their responsibilities.
- Senior level - Regularly provides guidance and training to less-experienced analyst/programmers.
Required Qualifications*Intermediate: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field with 2 years of experience in programming languages such as C, C++, C# or Java. Experience in R, JScript, Python and other programming languages/platforms like MCV, Spring, REACT, ASP is desirable or Master Degree in Computer Science or related field
Relational database experience in SQL or ORACLE is desirable
Health system experience is desirable
Strong organizational, presentation and written communication skills
Strong and effective communication skill
Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, internally and externally
Ability to act effectively both independently and as a member of a team
Flexibility to meet changing priorities
Senior: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related fields with at least 5 years of experience in programming languages such as C, C++, C# or Java OR - Master's Degree in Computer Science or related fields with at least 2 years of experience in the previously mentioned languages
Experience working with relational databases like SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL
Experience working with non-relational databases like MongoDB is desirable
