Job Overview Knoch School District is seeking qualified applicants for the anticipated position of Director of Special Services. This is a twelve-month administrative position responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the District's special education and student services programs, ensuring high-quality support for students and compliance with federal and state regulations.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader who is committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs while fostering strong partnerships with families, staff, and community agencies.
Primary Responsibilities - Provide leadership for all district special education programs and student services.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Chapter 14, Chapter 15, Chapter 16, Chapter 711, and other applicable federal and state regulations.
- Supervise special education staff, including teachers, related service providers, and paraprofessionals.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Collaborate with building administrators, teachers, families, and outside agencies to support student success.
- Coordinate and facilitate student placements, evaluations, and transition planning.
- Develop and manage the department budget and monitor special education expenditures.
- Analyze student data to improve programming and ensure equitable access to services.
- Coordinate professional development related to special education and inclusive practices.
- Maintain accurate state reporting and ensure compliance with applicable PDE requirements.
- Serve as the District liaison with Intermediate Unit staff, outside agencies, and legal counsel regarding special education matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Qualifications - Pennsylvania Letter of Eligibility or Principal Certification required.
- Pennsylvania Supervisor of Special Education certification preferred.
- Master's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of successful experience in special education.
- Administrative experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and Pennsylvania special education laws and regulations.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working collaboratively with administrators, educators, families, and community partners.
